Is AVG trial version the same as the free version?

I've tried to download Avast three times and have had problems getting it to download for some reason, so now I'm going to try AVG. I found this 30 trial version on their website. Does it mean that you get the support for 30 days, but you can continue to use the program or will the program uninstall itself after 30 days?

It means they are basically loaning you the program for 30 days to see if you like it. After that you will be expected to buy or remove it. You probably would not be allowed to update for too many days past the 30 day period.

If you use my link just pay attention and stay with the free version. It seems many companies are making it like an Easter egg hunt to get the free version, they want us to buy it.

Thanks, owbist. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but AVG did the same thing Avast did. I downloaded it under Programs, but once it said the download was finished, I couldn't find it. I even did a search to see if it was hidden somewhere, but couldn't find it. I guess I'm going to have to buy something.

No problems with v9.0.791. The link below will take you to the change log for the current version and if you wish you can look at the change logs of the prior versions released since your 8.5 via the side bar offering. I have had AVG on this system since I purchased it three years ago and have never been mandated to have Yahoo on it. As far as the XP firewall, it has been recommended for some time that a user replace that firewall, which is one-way, to an alternative two-way firewall. Can't answer the paid vs free question, but hubby swears by AVG and its virtues. Claims that it catches more items and does not slow down the system. So I paid for the full version - just have to run the *exe files once they send me the activiation code. He uses the free version and has been pleased with it. Lynne

Witz right you are, indeed Bill P did decline and we all think very highly of him in the security community for doing so. Way to go Bill!! He is such a great guy anyway and that just proves it even more and WinPatrol is sure worth it. I know all of them want to create programs to help us all stay safe and make it easier for the support community to keep the pc's clean, the more clean ones we have the less we all suffer. It is a pay it forward thing for many of them, they just want to help. some unfortunately do end up giving in to the lure of the almighty dollar, I do not think that would be happening nearly as much if we all did contribute more to them in donations. It cost a lot of money to keep those sites up and running and time and effort to create the programs. I applaud them all and do get on the soap box occasionally to try to make people understand how valuable these people are and how supporting their free products is a worthwhile effort.

Laurie, save the download to your desktop since this is the setup file for installation, not the actual program. Then double-click on the icon of the setup file to install the program on your computer. It should then be listed in your programs and an icon in the bar next to the clock. You can then delete the setup file icon from your desktop.
