New version of Spywareblaster available

For those of you using SpywareBlaster from Javacool Software, when you go to 'check for updates' you will notice there is a new version, 4.2, available.

For any of you thinking about getting the SpywareBlaster "with Autoupdate now free", to the right of the blue 'OR' button, make sure you read the 'User Agreement' and 'Privacy Policy' links at the bottom through a web site operated by TrialPay, Inc.

This is the first time I have seen this with 'SpywareBlaster'.

I'm not saying they're bad but be cautious!

This is what 'PC World' has to say about 'TrialPay'.

Personally, I would stay with the free manual update version. Updates only come out every 2 or 3 weeks anyway.

From what I see it is not free and is 9.95 a year for auto update.

It's still free Zep.

You click the link under the Hourglass 'Continue download'

All these places are getting more deceptive in their downloads advertising!

You can try going to start> run> type in> regsvr32 (space) msstdfmt.dll> Ok. regsvr32 msstdfmt.dll Or Go to start> Right click > Explore > Program files> SpywareBlaster folder> uninsooo (Setup/uninstall). Removing SpywareBlaster and doing a new install for 4.2. I would run Malwarebytes to make sure your clean> Good luck!

That is not accurated. Spywareblaster is and has been for a long time recommended highly by the tech forums that aid in removal of malware. It is a trusted program and the program writers at javacool are highly regarded. He may have had it confused with some other program with a similar name perhaps? this is a rogue company that tries to trick people into using their product instead of the real and good program from javacool. spyware-b1aster-software.com no trial version locatable online; inadequate info about company & app (1); exploits name SpywareBlaster (note: should not be confused with the JavaCool app of the same name) [A: 3-25-05 / U: 3-25-05] when you have questions please refer to Erics great site which list all rogue software and which are the good ones. http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm Always make sure you get the right spywareblaster by getting it directly from the javacool site. on this page at Eric's spywarewarrior page you can scroll on down and he will tell you products you can use you will see Spywareblaster and Spywareguard both listed there. spywareblaster is not a scanner type program it sits in the background and helps to keep you protected from malicious sites, I use it on all my windows computers and highly recommend it, you just install the free version, then click on updates, then click on the enable all protection so that the shield is green as long as the shield is green and you have all the updates you are good. I manually check for updates about once a week. for a good program that you can have on the pc no problems with any antivirus programs is malwarebytes. i would get the free version update it and run full scan with it once a week or so. Here are the directions, but I personally always do a full scan instead of the quick one. How to download and install Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware application for Windows computers I would do that scan now since you think you may have something on it now, let us know if it finds anything.

wow I need to ask javacool about that, kinda surprises me, he has steered clear of all the add on stuff, he sure does deserve some money though for the awesome programs he has given us and unfortunately so many people get the free versions and never consider even a small donation to help cover the expenses of creating and hosting those free programs, even just a dollar helps and man his programs sure have helped me. I try to donate to all the freebies I use.

I feel the same way about helping out. Every couple years I'll donate to those programs that I've tried and felt worthwhile,______SpywareBlaster, Spybot Search & Destroy, and SuperAntispyware.
I've had WinPatrol for several years and decided last year to pay the one time fee for the 'Plus' version, well worth it.
I've always wondered what these 'third party' programs actually get in return after getting their products into all the freeware and shareware floating around out there. Must be some big $$$$$.:-())
Even Bill P' at WinPatrol was asked if he would like to include the 'Ask.com' toolbar with his program. He declined.

Witz right you are, indeed Bill P did decline and we all think very highly of him in the security community for doing so. Way to go Bill!! He is such a great guy anyway and that just proves it even more and WinPatrol is sure worth it.

I know all of them want to create programs to help us all stay safe and make it easier for the support community to keep the pc's clean, the more clean ones we have the less we all suffer. It is a pay it forward thing for many of them, they just want to help. some unfortunately do end up giving in to the lure of the almighty dollar, I do not think that would be happening nearly as much if we all did contribute more to them in donations. It cost a lot of money to keep those sites up and running and time and effort to create the programs. I applaud them all and do get on the soap box occasionally to try to make people understand how valuable these people are and how supporting their free products is a worthwhile effort.
