Cancelling a yahoo mail account

I had set up a Yahoo mail account with a bunch of modelers.

I no longer use that mail, and it keeps generating mail from those modelers. Currently there are over a thousand in there.

It's easy to delete them, but I would rather close that account,

Problem is I cant find, or recognize, any place to just close it out.

Do they ever let you out?

I'm having trouble with Outlook Express as my family mail thru our ISP and toying with the idea of dumping OE and maybe using Yahoo mail as a replacement.

Would anyone please give some insight ?

I just looked at my@Yahoo - can't find anywhere to cancel it.
Think I would put a vacation reply with a simple message - maybe...
Please remove myname@yahoo.com from your address book as it is no longer used by me. Thanks.

You might also change your Reply to address so if they use it to reply it goes to notme@whoknowswhere.com

Then delete you cookies for Yahoo and they should close it after X-number of months when they never see you online again as that username.

As I understand it, the purpose of whatever information analytics are used by Google and others is to try to tailor ad delivery. Magazines and newspapers have been doing the same thing for years, though perhaps not always with the same information. No one tracks or cares about how many times a week YOU go to the bank or what route you take to get there. Anyone who wants to track me is more than welcome to do so. The thing is, the alternative is a string and two tin cans. People aren't willing to ditch their smartphones, most people aren't bothered by the data accumulation aspect.

rather than deleting one when it is like that instead use that email address when signing up for things online or when ordering stuff that way if it gets on some spam list no harm it is already a spammed addy. Most people do just that then always have one address that is solely used for that type of action and never use their good main email addy for anything other than actual email with family and friends. however the way they turn into spammed addys is when you have people that forward email to you with exposed addys in the To field, the spammers start those just to have them spread like a fire and then they rake in all those email addys. Which is why everyone should use the BCC feature when emailing. I have many email addresses, one is yahoo which I rarely use but in all the years I have had it I have had maybe 4 spam. My hotmail which I use daily I get maybe 4-5 a week. Using the provided spam filters also helps and anytime you get a spam mail make sure to send it to the spam or junk folder rather than delete it so that the program can learn what is junk.

Browser ? operating system ? If windows 95 and IE, will it type in compatibility mode ? If another version windows & other browser uninstall the browser and reinstall the most current version after restarting the computer.

Ok I did not know about that. I tried it but it wants me to log in with my yahoo address and I have a different address registered with that site as I just send any large files right from the site. It's still the same if you use the email feature, you need to zip the whole folder first then navigate to the zipped folder and attach unless you want to click on each file one by one to attach. It's always been like that with that site as far as I know. To me it's no different sending from the site or sending from yahoo. Frankly I can't stand yahoo mail or online mail for that matter and use a mail program then yousend it separate if I need to send a large file. Mary

Open your yahoo email and click on HELP. There's a subject line that will get you to the following:

Terminating your account means you'll lose access to the Yahoo! ID, Yahoo! Mail, and profile names associated with it. We'll also delete the account data and settings across the Yahoo! network. This includes any contents in:

Yahoo! Mail
Yahoo! Address Book
Yahoo! HotJobs
GeoCities
Yahoo! Briefcase
My Yahoo!
Yahoo! Groups
Finance Portfolio
Any other area of Yahoo! that can only be accessed with your Yahoo! ID and password
Be sure you want to delete your entire account, as you won't be able to reactivate it after the account has been deleted. You're always welcome to sign up again for a new account.

Terminating your Yahoo! account won't alter or delete your Yahoo! People Search listing, which you need to edit or delete yourself.

If you subscribe to any premium services, we recommend that you cancel them firstÂbefore you delete your account. There is no guarantee that deleting your Yahoo! account will immediately cancel the billing for any premium services you're subscribed to. To cancel your current subscriptions, visit Yahoo! Billing Information for your account, choose the "My Services" tab and click the "Cancel" link for each subscription.

Now: To remove your entire account, please visit our Account Deletion page. You'll be asked to sign in to verify your password for the account you wish to delete. Please be sure to read the next page carefully, as important information about your account is included. You can then confirm the deletion of your account.

When the deletion process is initiated, your Yahoo! account can never be recovered.

Wow, Thanks everyone. I guess I didn't think about all other Yahoo activity.
Now that I think about it, I may just find my way back to that club site and try to get off of their mailing list.
Also, it appears that I have OE back under control, so I'll coast it all out.
