Cancelling a yahoo mail account

I had set up a Yahoo mail account with a bunch of modelers.

I no longer use that mail, and it keeps generating mail from those modelers. Currently there are over a thousand in there.

It's easy to delete them, but I would rather close that account,

Problem is I cant find, or recognize, any place to just close it out.

Do they ever let you out?

I'm having trouble with Outlook Express as my family mail thru our ISP and toying with the idea of dumping OE and maybe using Yahoo mail as a replacement.

Would anyone please give some insight ?

I just looked at my@Yahoo - can't find anywhere to cancel it.
Think I would put a vacation reply with a simple message - maybe...
Please remove myname@yahoo.com from your address book as it is no longer used by me. Thanks.

You might also change your Reply to address so if they use it to reply it goes to notme@whoknowswhere.com

Then delete you cookies for Yahoo and they should close it after X-number of months when they never see you online again as that username.

Yeah, but what if I don't want to talk to any of you? ;~) Anyway, I dumped most of the info from my member page over to my Flickr account. I almost always have it open and reload frequently. There were too many places to have to update constantly. I hardly check my email! Of course when I don't, I always get something interesting. Since I upgraded my Yahoo account, I should see if I can get another address as well. Scott

As I understand it, the purpose of whatever information analytics are used by Google and others is to try to tailor ad delivery. Magazines and newspapers have been doing the same thing for years, though perhaps not always with the same information. No one tracks or cares about how many times a week YOU go to the bank or what route you take to get there. Anyone who wants to track me is more than welcome to do so. The thing is, the alternative is a string and two tin cans. People aren't willing to ditch their smartphones, most people aren't bothered by the data accumulation aspect.

I'm not really familiar with Yahoo mail but my guess is that the email address presented to you should be an alternate email you provided sometime in the past, to be used at a time like this. If that address is unfamiliar to you, I would fear that it was entered by a hacker. Maybe not but even if it wasn't, sending recovery info to an unknown address wouldn't do you any good. I wonder if Yahoo Customer Care would help you regain control? That or someone who's been through it before will come by and with a better answer. You definitely don't have to use yahoo simply because you are with uverse. Just because they give you a free email address there nothing says you have to use it. I have never used the email address provided by my provider. I am with comcast they provide an email address, but I have never used it ever. I continue to use my Hotmail which I can access from any pc or tablet anywhere. Changing your address is really not a big deal anymore. Just send out a blanket email to your address book letting everyone know the new one. If you are registered at places with the email address then you can change it easily on the site, they all have an option for that. We all make changes, this is a fairly easy one.

Open your yahoo email and click on HELP. There's a subject line that will get you to the following:

Terminating your account means you'll lose access to the Yahoo! ID, Yahoo! Mail, and profile names associated with it. We'll also delete the account data and settings across the Yahoo! network. This includes any contents in:

Yahoo! Mail
Yahoo! Address Book
Yahoo! HotJobs
GeoCities
Yahoo! Briefcase
My Yahoo!
Yahoo! Groups
Finance Portfolio
Any other area of Yahoo! that can only be accessed with your Yahoo! ID and password
Be sure you want to delete your entire account, as you won't be able to reactivate it after the account has been deleted. You're always welcome to sign up again for a new account.

Terminating your Yahoo! account won't alter or delete your Yahoo! People Search listing, which you need to edit or delete yourself.

If you subscribe to any premium services, we recommend that you cancel them firstÂbefore you delete your account. There is no guarantee that deleting your Yahoo! account will immediately cancel the billing for any premium services you're subscribed to. To cancel your current subscriptions, visit Yahoo! Billing Information for your account, choose the "My Services" tab and click the "Cancel" link for each subscription.

Now: To remove your entire account, please visit our Account Deletion page. You'll be asked to sign in to verify your password for the account you wish to delete. Please be sure to read the next page carefully, as important information about your account is included. You can then confirm the deletion of your account.

When the deletion process is initiated, your Yahoo! account can never be recovered.

Wow, Thanks everyone. I guess I didn't think about all other Yahoo activity.
Now that I think about it, I may just find my way back to that club site and try to get off of their mailing list.
Also, it appears that I have OE back under control, so I'll coast it all out.
