Malwarebytes and Superantispyware have been working pretty well for me. I've been using them along with Microsoft Security Essentials doing weekly scans. No problems so far.

I'll second Azinoh's choices

I have new laptop.. Superantispyware newest causes error log errors. Win7/64 bit .. tried it a couple times.. always a problem at I forget now boot or shutdown. Sent them a copy of the report each time uninstalled it asks why.

That was my favorite stand alone scanner, but I like no errors, messes up reliability rating too. No way around it.

I use the same azinoh and owbist and am happy with it. I had problems with superanti spyware the first time I used it. It's not a problem anymore and it finds things others miss.

my number one is Malwarebytes free second is superantispyware free.

I have both installed on all my windows machines you can have both with out any problems since they are both on demand scanners.

be sure you have a good clean uninstall of your previous program. You can use app remover

Ok. Odd question for the Malwarebytes current users.... does it reeeeally work?

Reason for the question... I already had Ad-Aware, Malwarebytes and SuperAntispyware installed. Malwarebytes never detected anything but, the other two would detect stuff. It seemed odd but Malwarebytes never detected anything and I usually always had some detections from the other two programs. I really mean zip, zero, nada, ever from Malwarebytes. I do not get it. I even ran a test of sorts in which I let MB scan first (before scaning with the other two programs). Kind of scary, hu? I have kept updating the data files and the program but that did not change anything. Not that I want to find my PC full of problems but odd that the others detect problems and MB has never detected anything since 2010.

Luis I believe every safety program by the reputable vendors is safe and good. Have you really thought about those differences? For example I kill ants and centipedes indoors but not spiders, many kill spiders too. Who is right or wrong there? Just a different perspective on things. The real bad guys are taken care of by everyone, those lesser are measured by different standards in different safety programs.

All the programs presumably know the bad guys and protect us from them but the difference comes in how those 'nuisance' type things are assessed. Some remove them others spend more time with the real threats.

A few years ago the computer security firms declared that the bad guys are winning. They cannot create a fix for a virus not get designed anymore than we can clean up a spill on the kitchen floor that has not happened.

I also believe all the security companies work together to identify threats and help keep us safe. With the volume of nasties created they can do nothing less.

Over the years I have tried almost all free anti virus and malware programs, changing not because of discontent but just willing to try what the other guy has to offer. I use Microsoft Security Essentials only now. It is fully automatic which is nice and I only need the one program. Others find the need to add layer, again that is a personal opinion for all of us. MSE has been out about 2.5 years and I have had it since day one and never had an issue, I have confidence that will continue.
