SpywareBlaster update

I went to update my SpywareBlaster. It said there was an update but I couldn't get it from that place. I clicked where it said & it is a whole new version. I disabled all protection (see below) but when I went to Add/remove I don't even see it there. I wonder why it isn't there & can I just download the new version?

I hope this version is free.

Upgrade Instructions

It is recommended that you uninstall your current version of SpywareBlaster before installing the new version. To do this:

Open SpywareBlaster and press the "Disable All Protection" link under "Quick Tasks".
Close SpywareBlaster.
Go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the entry named "SpywareBlaster 4.1"
Download the latest SpywareBlaster installer from the link above and run it.
Enjoy the new version of SpywareBlaster!

yes there will be an option at the download area to continue on with the free version or the option to get the pay version, I just did mine recently with no problem at all I did the instructions just as they suggested removing the old then adding the new and all is well.

I do not know why you would not have it showing in Add Remove it should be, do you show it in your program files area?
if you do a search for it on the pc does it find it?

Yes, it shows in search..

Also in programs.. I cut off some to save space..

there is a difference between windows messenger and msn messenger, I would guess what you have a user name and password for is the msn messenger. Windows messenger is nothing but trouble and I always do what zep said and disable it on every pc, it has proved to be a security risk in the past. Do you by any chance use msn as your ISP or use msn browser or anything to do with msn? If so it will have that msn messenger icon down there along with the butterfly, the IM messenger part is a part of msn and unfortunately stays there even when turned off.

you might try installing it in safe mode that way no other programs would be running and it might go through easier. But javacool has a specific forum set up in Wilders so I would suggest going to the Spywareblaster forum and posting there. Javacool is very nice and would probably love to know about the problem so he can try to fix it if it is a conflict. Here is the link SpywareBlaster & Other Forum

As reported at Wilders Security Forums by Javacool, the developer of Spyware Blaster and the other wonderful Javacool software programs, "sbautoupdate.exe" is a legitimate component of SpywareBlaster 4.1. AVG is detecting "sbautoupdate.exe" as a trojan. The legitimate sbautoupdate.exe file is digitally signed by "Javacool Software LLC", and has the following checksums: MD5: 5D0E5821EB35CDA9C320C1BDF1A4B695 SHA1: 62B09B3503C05A3CC853BB8BDFCC8292FD200E53 Although originally reported at C:Net that the detection of "C:\Program Files\SpywareBlaster\sbautoupdate.exe" as a trojan was correct, Javacool recently indicated at Wilders that AVG has informed them that a fix will be pushed out for the false-positive detection in a new virus database update. Dar there is no reason not to go ahead and keep spywareblaster it will not cause any problems and will keep you protected in other ways, it may not protect you when using Chrome but it does still protect you, if you look at the main page when spywareblaster opens you will see it lists all the ways it protects you and that one browser is just one of several so definitely continue to use it and update it, when you update it and click enable all protection it will show you all the areas of protection also. It does not conflict with Chrome and it may well work, when you enable all protection on your spywareblaster you will see it listed in the green list if it is protecting it.

Since I can't find SpywareBlaster in Add & Remove should I just try to download the new version.. is there anyway to delete it from where I do see it? I don't see a way.

Have you looked in /Program Files/SpywareBlaster Folders to see if there is an .exe file name sounding like uninst.ext or uninstall.exe or unin000.exe ??
Double click it if you see it and feel confident its sounds like an uninstaller.exe

Mikie all I see in programs are some dbt files (what ever that is) & a shortcut.

I found this in Windows but afraid to mess around in windows without being told to by someone with knowledge..like you..

I'm about ready to just download the new one & hope for the best :(

Does it show up in Revo Uninstaller? That is how I reomoved my Spyblaster, before installing the new version

I installed 4.2 right over the top of 4.1 without any problems.

Janette I downloaded Revo uninstaller & it isn't there. What I don't understand is that the shortcut on my desktop seemed to open it & had me disable it. How can I disable something that doesn't seem to be there?

Tumbleweed.. I will never know if it is really working. By all signs mine is working..just needs an update. I think I'll just download the update & hope for the best.

I downloaded it.. installed & got the popup below.. after several tries I just clicked ignore & seem to have it.. at least it is in add/remove but not sure it is working.. it looks OK at least..

You can try going to start> run> type in> regsvr32 (space) msstdfmt.dll> Ok.

regsvr32 msstdfmt.dll

Or

Go to start> Right click > Explore > Program files> SpywareBlaster folder> uninsooo (Setup/uninstall). Removing SpywareBlaster and doing a new install for 4.2.

I would run Malwarebytes to make sure your clean> Good luck!
