I suspect that you are really a small man who suffers from small man syndrome (which is why you gave yourself the name Hercules - hopefully you didn't come up with name after the flower???) Definitions of Spyware: * Installs itself on a PC without user's knowledge - yep. * Tracks computer usage - yep * Can be difficult to remove - so far not too much of a problem * commercial or criminal intent - probably commerical. * can/may spread itself - haven't seen that yet. Types of Spyware: * Ad-aware * Keylogger * Browser hijackers * Dialers Removal: * Spyware software from a respected vendor (i.e. more that one version of a vendor software is probably recommended - I have found that only one version doesn't always catch everything). Hercules - I think you are nothing but a really big fake and your posts in this thread were nothing more than trying to get even from poking fun at the Lawn boy guys in an earlier post. There is enough history of your posts and follow-ups to support that theory.

Jann, I just download/installed on my Windows 98 SE test box. It installed okay but wouldn't open until I downloaded/installed the VB6SP6 Runtime files. Now it works okay. CCleaner is a fine application and one I recommend regularly. However, its focus is not that for which Darlene asks. Its focus is system flotsam and jetsam. I too think that daily scanning might be excessive as I recommend to users to run it weekly. I would probably tire quickly to the loss of site preferences on a daily basis. I've always used and recommended Spybot S&D. Never liked AdAware regardless of version. I have been "testing" AVG Anti-Spyware and Super AntiSpyware for a month now. So far they appear to me to be just "another marketed application". Neither of them have made me sit up and take notice, nor have either of them detected anything. DA

thanks everybody for your input. i installed super anti-spyware, updated it, and did a whole computer scan that resulted in no malware. thus, i disabled link scanner, resident shield, automatic update manager, and the e-mail scanner in AVG 8.0 and noticed a marked difference in the speed of the computer. i tried letting resident shield be active, but that still caused my computer to run rather slowly. it seems that the new AVG is quite a bit of trouble with its functions are inferring with spybot s&d and spyware blaster. as of now, only the anti-virus; anti-spyware, and the license components of AVG are 'active' on my computer; therefore, my questions become: is it necessary to have AVG running from start-up? since i've disabled the resident shield, will having AVG running in the background provide me with some automatic, subtle protection? i currently have win patrol, zone alarm (and AVG) running in the background. should i have super anti-spyware running in the background as well? thanks for all your input.
