Should I or shouldn't I?

I hate my piece of $#!+ Kenmore range. I have been longing for a gas range since I can't remember.

I have a line on a Kitchenaid dual fuel range with double oven (convection), less than a year old and at less than 25% of the retail price.

I currently have all black appliances and this range is stainless. It would be a while until I could replace all the other appliances (which I would love to because they are all Kenmore and all pieces of $#!+.) But can't afford a total remodel right now.

Would you or wouldn't you, knowing that you'd be in heaven with the range, but it would stand out like a sore thumb in your kitchen for a good while?

I'd definitely go for it. The range is definitely the most important appliance in my kitchen. Matching it to the other appliances is my least important factor.

PS I have a schoolbus yellow range (which I hand picked), a stainless steel dishwasher (a screaming deal on a quality Bosch model) and a black refrigerator (donated by a friend that was moving --- 10 years ago --- I'll replace it eventually when it dies)

I have stainless dishwasher, fridge and MW, but a black stove. Go for it.

Silver Maples grow that way and are being outlawed in some provinces in Canada. They have very far-reching root systems which are very shallow and reach for the nearest source of water. They will destroy swimming pools and the foundations of houses. In a very few years these little saplings will be large whopping tress with as many as nine large braches. They will split, that is their nature. It cost us about $3,000.00 over 3 years to get ours taken down and the roots are still visible in the grass. So if you have no buildings or swimming pools nearby let them be. They make very good shade trees but are dangerous in ice-storms because they will come down. Thanks for all the responses - this really helps. The buyers are only interested in our property because it abutts their parents backyard. It's a one of a kind situation for them. We are building a house and our timelines are a bit flexible. The builder will speed things up if we sell quickly, or vice versa. I'm leaning toward ruling out the Hubbard but countering with a longer window to close - as much as 6 months. We could close on the new house without the sale of this one if we had to. At least this option would shine a light at the end of the tunnel. Do you think this is a feasible option?

I think you need to put on some brakes. You're having scope creep. That can be wise, or it can be foolish. A lot will depend on your goals and why you are thinking about doing certain projects. Draw out your space as it currently exists with all of the dimensions and post it in the Kitchen Forum for some help on this project. You will get both pros and cons, but hearing those will help you to clarify your decision. Post some pics too, so people can get an idea of the rest of the home and it's style to see if what you are proposing works with the style of home you have. And you really need to have a very firm layout of the space before you even think about ordering cabinets, so posting your diagrams should be a priority.

If you're going to replace your countertops, wait to tile after the new ones are installed. Otherwise if you don't wait, your tile can get damage PLUS you'll have a gap between the existing tile and new countertop. Another point to make is that if you replace you countertop with a different material, like granite or quartz, there will be differences in the thickness of the countertop, which will effect things as well. You'll get a better fit and less hassle if you replace your top, then tile. Also, if you're cost conscious, its more expensive to custom fit a new back splash underneath existing tile. I also say go for it. I have a white stove, almond dishwasher, cream colored fridge and those 70s orange countertops, nothing matches anything else.

I think the usage factor trumps the decorative factor every time for me.

Somehow I knew the concensus would be to go for it! I will make a call when I get home to see if it is still available.

So.....what kind of learning curve should I expect for the convection oven?

Not much learning curve. You'll love the convection once you have a chance to use it. You can lessen the time it takes something to bake/roast by 25%. Preheat with convection always, even if you aren't using it to bake something like a delicate cake. (My oven preheats using convection in 12-15 minutes, depending on how high I need it to be.) Don't use convection if you're baking bacon, or your oven is dirty when you want to high heat roast. It's not true that everything bakes more evenly. You still have to check and turn your sheet pans for even baking/roasting, depending on where they are positioned in your oven.

Go for it. You may decide you don't like stainless after having to clean the front of it for a while, and this would be the thing to try it on. It will still blend in with the rest of your kitchen. I suspect you're gonna LOVE the oven, once you get acquainted with it!

Glad you're going for it!!

First of all, stainless will not stand out like a sore thumb among black -- it's going to look fine.

Secondly, nothing is uglier than something you hate! And nothing is prettier than the thing that makes your life easier!

AND I love love love my convection oven. Not much of a learning curve. Mainly just figure on about 10% less cooking time than before. But what I did was watch carefully as things baked the first several times I used it. That's how I came to the conclusion about 10%.

Best thing about it is that you can use all three racks at the same time and everything comes out evenly. Cookies in 1/3 of the time, cook your meet and veggies at the same time, etc.

Damn! I knew this sweet deal would not last long. The stove is sold.

Well, I'll keep looking and maybe another great deal will turn up.

Do you live by a Sears Clearance or Sears Outlet. The one near us is chock a block full of stoves and fridges and washer/dryers etc.. some dented, some not, some returns, some not, and they have regular sales on already reduced prices and usually tack on more savings if you buy it with your Sears card. Not all the appliances are Sears brand either.. all different brands.
