honestly if you don't wish to switch from IE to another browser then you are simply asking for punishment. IE was not made for users, but advertisers. That is why IE users have more problems with ads than users of any other browser. If you won't help yourself why on earth do you expect anyone else to help you? Download Firefox and it will automatically import all your IE links and settings to make things painless. Complaining about how bad IE sucks on ad based web sites is like sticking your hand into a fire and complaining to god about making fire less hot. Ain't gonna happen. Help yourself or learn to accept the pain.

Check the postings on the link below to see if any of those help. My wife's computer behaves in a similar fashion and I made an odd discovery. She uses IE7 and if we open one instance of IE7 then click links in emails or on web pages then she could open those pages in a new window, not a tab of IE7. iexplore is what you run Whatever its home page is set to is what you will see when it starts up. So if the home page is set to Google.. that is what you see. If you want to change its home page, type into the address bar www.msn.com or what you want for the home page.. go to the page then typically click the gear on upper right and select internet options then you will see where to set the home page, set it to the page you have open by pressing the 'use current' button.

The setting is in IE version 10 & 11. Mine is version 10. By its default setting, the Enable Protected Mode should have already set. To check, open IE. Under "Tools" (top menu), select "Internet options". Under the "Security" tab, you will see "Enable Protected Mode". This should be checked. You can also disable the Flash Plugins. This bug won't work with Flash plugins disabled. To disable, open IE and go to "Tools" and select "Manage add-ons". Under "Toolbars and Extensions", you will see to the right "Adobe Systems Incorporated". Under this, "Shockwave Flash Object" is listed. When you select this, you will see a "disable" at the bottom. Click on it to disable; then, select "Close" to get out of the setting. Doing both, you can continue to use IE.
