Just wanted to let you know that a new bug has been found that affects all versions of Internet Explorer. For details and info please read the linked articles.

...and....Adobe Flash issued an update earlier this afternoon....which undoubtedly addresses this problem. So...if you don't have Adobe Flash set to auto update...go their link and upload the most recent version...13.0.0.206

even easier go to security garden and there you will find the direct links for the non IE versions and the IE versions be sure you get both if you have different browsers one for each type.
Adobe has released security updates

If you get it from the adobe site be sure to uncheck the extras like the McAfee stuff.

It's definitely the bean beetle. This one above has more spots, but after seeing one spot turn to two, it might just be they get older and they get more spots. I've also gone at it with the squash bugs and they are a type of stink bug, they are armored and fairly large. I have only once seen a squash bug fly, didn't know they had wings, but I searched every squash bug, stink bug, I could find, so I am aware of the stink bug you are referring only by picture, none found in the yard yet. I didn't take a picture because I am fairly sure it's the been beetle, just don't know why they are dive bombing my tomatoes. Do they like cannas, lilies, or elephant ears? I hope not, the only bean I planted was nubbed down by a goold ole' rabbit/mole/deer/groundhog/squirrel. I have to say the rabbits are hiding better this year, unlike the groundhog and the squirrel. Well, anyways I found my culprit, it's definitely a red bean beetle, now just to find out what he's eating. I hope not my castor bean plant, isn't it poisonous to bugs too? They are only flying around the tomatoes and those flowers I mentioned above, plus the honeysuckle bush.

honestly if you don't wish to switch from IE to another browser then you are simply asking for punishment. IE was not made for users, but advertisers. That is why IE users have more problems with ads than users of any other browser. If you won't help yourself why on earth do you expect anyone else to help you? Download Firefox and it will automatically import all your IE links and settings to make things painless. Complaining about how bad IE sucks on ad based web sites is like sticking your hand into a fire and complaining to god about making fire less hot. Ain't gonna happen. Help yourself or learn to accept the pain.

Without stepping on anyone's toes, could I join the needing help with this issue? If this should be a separate thread, please tell me... Approx 2 months, same problem with IE9. I know there had been an update a few days before I noticed the problem but thought I'd used the browser for same tasks for a few days after that. For the last few (8 or more) weeks, I have to type my username into Ebay sign in when I didn't before, and I can't leave or view feedback there with IE9 any longer. Shop, buy, pay - all fine. My bank, all else has been OK except GW....I can't log into GW either and Tamara hasn't been able to assist. I'm having to change browsers and use Firefox for the forums, and to leave feedback on Ebay...just those two places. Workable but annoying. Windows 7. I didn't intentionally change any settings or do anything where I could have unintentionally changed them that I'm aware of, and I do use CCleaner regularly, no big cookie stashes. I've moved Ebay cookies and GW cookies to the delete side of the CCleaner options, moved them back to the 'saves'...no difference.

Debi, My posts were intended to be informational status reports not links to the patches. It was just before 1:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. exactly at the time. I was also on my work system rather than being at home where I could have tested the update utility and ferreted through Google for more information. Sorry if I caused you any confusion. DA

ravencajun, I just checked on my new computer I just got and I see only Adobe Reader Xl listed in the programs. Is Adobe Reader a separate program & do I need to download it I have Win. 8.1. Thanks!

Adobe reader is a different program but you do need to keep it updated also, you can open it up click help and update.

The flash is a plug-in on Firefox

The bug has been around quite awhile but just now been known through the media. It's most vulnerable to those that is still using WinXP since MS is no longer supporting it.

IE version 10 and after have an "Enable Protected Mode" under the Tools/Internet options/Security menu. It needs to be checked to protect from this bug.

You can also disable Flash Plugins or like RavenCajun mentioned, update it to avoid the bug.

@ mary7060_mi, Because you have Windows 8.1, Adobe Flash Player will be updated through Windows Update.

Everyone please note that the Adobe Flash Player update was for a different vulnerability than the IE zero-day which has to be updated by Microsoft.

Yes definitely two different vulnerabilities just happening at the same time.
And this is not the Heartbleed problem that is yet something different.

And it is important to note the IE bug affects all versions of IE does not matter which version of Windows you are using.
So best thing is to just use another browser till microsoft gets a fix out for IE.

It, explicitly, affects IE v.6-v.11....and it's currently being debated whether or not an MS issued patch will be usable for IE on XP systems. Some purest believe it won't be because MS has dropped XP protection. Others hope that it will be because the patch would be for the effected versions of IE in particular. But, converting to another browser is a very wise piece of advice at this point if you still use any version of XP.

Raven and Anne, thank you for all the info and help. Thanks to you I downloaded Firefox on Tuesday and I really like it. Imported all my favorites. I did reset the security level on IE to high but it made some sites "wacky", such as no mail showing.

ntt_hou..... would you please tell me how to find the Enable Protected Mode" on Win. 8 I have looked under Settings but don't see any Tools/Internet option. (miss my XP) :(Thanks!

The setting is in IE version 10 & 11. Mine is version 10. By its default setting, the Enable Protected Mode should have already set. To check, open IE. Under "Tools" (top menu), select "Internet options". Under the "Security" tab, you will see "Enable Protected Mode". This should be checked.

You can also disable the Flash Plugins. This bug won't work with Flash plugins disabled. To disable, open IE and go to "Tools" and select "Manage add-ons". Under "Toolbars and Extensions", you will see to the right "Adobe Systems Incorporated". Under this, "Shockwave Flash Object" is listed. When you select this, you will see a "disable" at the bottom. Click on it to disable; then, select "Close" to get out of the setting.

Doing both, you can continue to use IE.
