If it's like the Trackman Marbles I encounter, the ball should just pop out. It's not very common to find debris inside, but I have on occasion. The ball can be cleaned with alcohol, the inside just brushed out with a soft brush.

I have taken and cleaned the inside of a mouse before. There are two rollers for X & Y movements. You need to clean the dirt off these rollers.

Yours may be different.

The Marble series relies, as far as I'm aware anyway, on optical sensors, hence the "marble " pattern on the ball.

Regular mouse also uses Infrared optical LED and sensors to detect X & Y movments inside.

"Trackman" was a good tool. Don't give up on attempting to clean it. If you fail you will be surprised by all the features of the newer ones, and then, if you must, get a cordless optical mouse.

when I broke down and bought my wow pen joy vertical mouse it was the best thing I have done for my computer experience, my hands and arms are doing so much better now using this amazing mouse, it keeps your hand and arm in a natural hand shake vertical position. My husband was using it on my computer and had me order 2 more one for his office and one for his laptop at home. If you have any hand or arm problems do yourself a favor and get one. I ordered mine off of amazon, you can just google to find more.

Lets face it I'm on the computer a lot. I use my right hand for mouse, but my left shoulder gets pain in it. Usually rest the left arm on chair arm. I have a good chair. Is it because I'm 52 or is it mouse related or what. Maybe it's an old pain from painting for so many years? But it only acts up when at the computer....

Maybe that mouse above would help....

zep I just ordered 2 more of them for my husband, he loved using mine so much. He is on the pc all day every day so he really can use any help. I had developed bad carpal tunnel in my right hand, once getting the mouse and using it for a few weeks my carpal tunnel has subsided. I do have problems with my left arm too, numbness in the ring and little finger that is from an ulner nerve being compressed or pinched and yes it is from leaning our elbows on the hard desk surface. I now wear these elbow pad things any time I am on the pc so that my elbows are padded. I ordered some online but they were so tight they cut off my circulation even though they were sized xl. And I don't have really large arms they just run very small.
So I went to CVS and got 2 of their futuro knee supports(look like an ace bandage shaped for a knee), they have them in sizes so you can actually try those on to see which one fits with out killing you. Then I bought some kitchen sponges, at CVS just a cheap 4 pack. I came home tucked the sponge in to the area the elbow would be and pulled the whole thing on. Works way better than the ones I bought. My plan is to just go to the fabric store and buy some stuffing or padding and make some pads that fit in the supports and then sew velcro in it so I can just velcro them in and out when the support needs washing. It really has helped me, my fingers do not get numb as much.
The pain in your shoulder could definitely be related. It is amazing how our bodies let us know when we are doing something wrong.

I am a believer in that mouse, if it ever dies I will be stealing his till I can get a new one LOL
