Lisa, mine plastics dry better now with my Miele than they ever did with my heated option in the past. That is using the rinse aid with the Miele and with the one in the past as well. I think for me it does have something to do with how the Miele has things laid out that it is better than what I had before. Or at least it forces me to put things in better and therefore they dry better because of that. And they come out perfectly clean also. I would think if the Miele web site says that it has AutoOpen Drying that you are right about what it does, but that is just a guess on my part. Phil

I pulled the filter and checked mine last night. There is water like yours and there was some small bits of food particles. Did not smell. Although It finished running a load about 18hrs before. I can't test the two day thing since it pretty much always has dirty dishes in it. When there is dirty dishes in it obviously will have an odor that will build over time. I scrape but do not rinse my stuff. Wasn't as hard to break the habit that we had with rinsing the dishes since we were without a DW and sink for like 8 months for my remodel so it was like starting over :). I just started using the DW a few weeks ago. I have started using Miele Tabs and using 1/2. No rinse aid or salt. I have a whole house water softener and I just tested the water again and its at like 2 grains vs 28 without the softner. Kas, You use Tabs and rinse aid. I thought based on the directions that rinse aid should not be used with Tab detergents? I set the unit to not dispense any rinseaid. I do get white spots on silverware, plastic and glasses. Not sure I should add rinse aid.

Thanks to all of your advice on this thread and past threads, we purchased the floor model G5775SCSFSS. It was selling for $1708, but because of the sale and a few scratches on the top control panel near the corner we snagged it for $1280. The scratches aren't visible when the door is shut. I'm not sure what full retail was originally, but it seems like a good deal. I would have even gone up in models if they had had one on clearance. Redoingit--I appreciate your experience. Sparkling--thank you for pulling up those specs. Covingtoncat--Mine is a Q4. I'm noise sensitive so I figured the quieter the better. Plus, the price was better on the Dimension Plus anyway even with the sale. Odd, huh? A2--I won't relate the fact that the noise started right after you visited.... ;) the racking system is the newest configuration, I think. Rococo--I appreciate you chiming in as I've read many of your posts with your experiences. Thanks to you, I know to ask to have the Miele hooked up to cold water. My concern about the handle protrusion was alleviated when I saw the store display. I think it will tuck mostly under the marble overhang. There isn't a good spot near the cleanup sink for a towel to hang so the bar handle will be handy. The photo you posted is very informative. Thanks!! Deeageaux--Thanks for the link. With the installation scheduled for Tuesday, I have a couple of remaining questions. I'd like to get the DW running ASAP as I'm sick of washing two DW loads per day by hand, and we're having a dinner party Thursday night. 1. Is the filler strip something that can be easily DIY'd by DH after install? Obviously it can't be here by Tuesday if I order it tomorrow. 2. I'm confused about the salt issue. Will the tech help me through this? Do I need salt if my water hardness is "slightly hard" at 55-60 mg/L? Is this regular salt or a special Miele salt? 3. Do I need any other special Miele products? 4. I've been using jet dry and Finish Powerball tabs in my old Kenmore. Are these OK to use? I have about a year's supply of each thanks to Costco coupons. It's true that good dishwasher design will have the bottom spray outlets above the flood level of the dishwasher to further limit risk of siphoning (which is another reason I cited this as a rare problem). Of course, in drawer dishwashers, this can't be done (since they are only open from the top and could completely fill with water), so they can't mitigate the risk in this way (though, like door dishwashers they can use flood switches to detect some flooding conditions -- though for them I think the only switch is for when water leaks from the drawer bin into the outer shell. Floats and flood switches in dishwashers also help prevent this risk.). Sometimes there is little margin for error -- if the inflow of water is greater than the rate it leaks from the door, you still risk siphoning. In this photo, the jets are just barely above the flood line in the DW: Since the dishes sit in a rack even higher than the spray jets, they will only be at risk if the drain water gushes up , splashes up, or if the water level reaches them -- and if the water level reaches the dishes, it's also high enough to cover the spray jets and be a siphoning risk. One non-safety advantage of an on counter air gap is that your sink will take overflow (up to its capacity) instead of your kitchen floor in the event of a drain clog. FWIW, if I were setting the code, I'd consider a high loop sufficient. The alternate risks, though serious, just seem so remote. Not to mention if your city water loses pressure, you should just assume that the initial water when pressure is restored is bad. There are so many non-code installs out there of risky siphoning situations other than DWs (garden irrigation, fountains, fish ponds, pools, etc. Or even with a pool installed to code, if it is being filled from a garden hose dangling in the pool, loss of water pressure could result in siphoning). So it seems like overprotection of one small risk when there are so many others.
