Why on Earth did he not just do a system restore on your pc and put it back to how it was right before you did that?

Anytime you do something that changes stuff always try doing a simple stystem restore to right before you did what ever it was you did. OFten times that is all that is needed.

To get to system restore: Start> all programs> accessories> system tools> system restore. Choose to go to an earlier time, select the time from the calendar nearest to right before the event happened let it restore.

Where were you clicking uninstall? usually to get rid of IE7 you would go to Start>control panel> add remove program, find it in the list, select it to hilight it then hit the remove button.

Something you might try is starting up windows media player the in the view menu it should have a selection for size. Maybe set that for 200% then close it. Perhaps that will stick for the next time you go to africa and that image you see will be larger.

At that djuma page I see the image the size below on a black background unless I double click the image then it displays Full screen.

there is a workaround for the issue of it asking for your windows cd. If you have the I386 file on your pc and I bet you do. You can go do a search on your pc for I386 if you find it then you can do the work around. You tell your pc to go search there anytime it wants to search the cd, the files it will need are in that I386.

if you have the I386 on your pc you would start at the 2nd step in the instructions of course. Since this does involve a registry change I would have someone do it that is familiar with working on the registry and of course always back up the registry before anyone does anything to it. The registry is not a place to mess around in unless you know what you are doing.

So next time you have a repair guy over if he knows what he is doing you might have him do that, so next time it wants that cd you do not have it will know where to look.

Then he gave me his bill, I wrote him a check and he left.

I think I'd be letting him know what happened.
When WFP stopped it asked for the CD, which of course I don't have.Maybe you should let him know that, so he won't charge another customer for nothing when they too don't have the CD.

I'm just so glad I have the Dell Extended warranty...other than the cost to buy the warranty, I've not had any other expenses at all in 4 years.

CompHelp is my First Aid Site too...and if all else fails Dell and I just reformat again. Pretty soon I should be able to do it by myself.

There are a lot of ifs, ands and buts to all this.

I knew within a few minutes that I was not impressed with this young man. Instead of addressing the immediate problem he started making some changes in the way I had my PC set up, explaining that you can do this and this and this, as I am saying, yes I know and I don't want it that way, etc.

It would take too long to try to explain this whole thing, but after not being able to fix the problem he said he could do a ? (don't remember what he said,) but it would cost $135. I didn't respond to that. I will mention that the next morning I called the bank and put a stop payment on the check. I emailed him and told him that and that I needed time to decide what to do next. I got an email back and he more or less suggested the problem was that I wouldn't let him fix it because of the expense, and he did spend a lot of time, etc, etc. I called the bank, had the Stop payment removed, emailed him and told him so, and wished him well. I just didn't want to deal with him any more.

So then I started searching around HP Support and found a great online help site and was able to do the D/L for V7.

Ravencajun, I had read and tried your suggestions in the original thread but ran into a problem and backed out. Sometimes that is just what you have to do.

Mikie, I have tried the 200% and it makes the pic a little larger, but not as large as it had been. Have you been able to get on when they were doing a drive? They have been having problems with the cams recently. I would still like for someone who has V6 to try a screen shot and see if they get a large pic.

Sue, I've never bought warranties on anything. Most everything comes with a year's guarantee, and most problems happen in the first year. At least that is my reasoning. lol. This problem would not have been covered, because I caused it; it wasn't a HP problem.

Oh, well, it is over now and I learned again, when all else fails, read the directions. There is a wealth of help in the HP Support site that I had never even looked at before.

Oh, by the way, the charge was $10 for a house call and $50 for the time. My thinking was if the young man feels he earned his money, so be it. If he didn't earn it, it is on his conscience, not mine.

Sue I think the money you spent (wasted?) with the young tech was well spent. Now you realise that all 'techs' are not created equal and more importantly you learned you really can fix these things yourself.

The beauty of using a forum such as this one allows a cross section of replies to a request for help as each writer interprets the issues described by the person with the computer problems.

Sue, more than once I have used the HP help live chat, and it has been so helpful. HP really does have good online help, if only people would take advantage of it. I often tell people that what I know about computers I learned here at this forum and by trial and error (that's the hard way!).

I'm just glad to know that you weren't charged any more than that, for your 'lesson' in who not to call. I know so many folks who have taken their computer in someplace locally, and the bill is always $200-$250...and the friends say, "And it's not not completely fixed like I had it before."

Grandms, you are so right about HP helps and I should have gone there first, but this problem kinda overwhelmed me. Another thing I learned here at CompHelp, years ago is to google the problem and often you get the solution. And I will never forget one of the old-time helpers who always reminded us that with any help suggestion: "YMMV" (Your Mileage May Vary)

My computer is working fine as of now, bur still can't get that large picture with Print Screen. I'm still going to try to find and fix the problem and will post here if and when I do.
