When I used my google pass word today a message came on that they needed my telephone number. This was in case I forgot my password they could give it to me.

Have you ran across this or is this something new?

I would not be giving my password to Google.

In fact I would instantly update and run a full anti malware scan using Malwarebytes or similar and I would follow that with a full anti virus scan after ensuring the latest definitions were loaded.

Well, um, how would one access their Google account?

When I used my google pass word today a message came on that they needed my telephone number. This was in case I forgot my password they could give it to me.

Google actually asked if you would like to provide a phone number as an alternative means of identification should you forget your password. A some future point, should you forget your password, Google will text you a code to gain access to your account. You can also provide a secondary email address if you would prefer.

It's a normal part of Google security, although you don't have to do anything. Of course, if you forget your password...then you won't be able to access your Google account. Don't waste your time running a malware scan.

In my last house outside a little village in our county, I was very shocked to learn I had to "wait" for a private line. This was in the mid 80s. For several months I was once again on a party line blast from the past. One can hardly find a pay phone anywhere around here anymore because of the abundance of mobile phones. That was one of the reasons I ended up biting the bullet and getting one. I hate them and still have months and months of paid up minutes waiting to use. My parent's house still have the old, heavy rotary dial phones. Like Andie, that spoilt me forever because when I talk into a mobile, or even one of those lightweight land line phones, I feel like I am talking into the air. I hate the chintzy things too. LOL. Can you tell I am phone challenged? I still think people wearing those little do-dads over their ear and talking into the air look like borgs. I also hate to get behind them in the market, as they evidently walk down the isles connected through their air-wave umbilicus to someone in their house and that person is going through their pantries looking to see if the household is out of whatever item the borg is standing in front of. I don't remember ever having to talk to operators, save when making long distance calls or collect calls when away from home or at a phone booth before credit card calls were invented. The phone I miss the most was my ericaphon. sic sic sic. The rotary dial was at the base, and one picked the whole unit up and talked into a showerhead. rofl.

Thanks for that phone number, it is good to be proactive if we suspect something. I think Monrovia should be commended for their prompt response to the SOD discovery. When a nursery contacted them on my behalf about some recently purchased plants they asked what species and what size container and they were able to tell me where my plants were grown (not Azuza, thank goodness). Recently I have noticed some Monrovia plants with a large "Grown in GA" sticker stuck on their labels. I'll be looking for more of those in the future.

Thinking about number of plugs and phone line.

The wired phone is the probably one of the most reliable things in my neck of the wood. We recently switched to cable phone from the copper wire phone line through the phone company. The reliability of the cable phone is not nearly as good for us. The cell connection at my house is abysmal, and this is after having tried multiple companies. I have my kitchen phone at the desk near the kitchen but not in the kitchen. So it is easily reached from the central part of the house but not near the work surface. I have CAT5 to every room in my house. When we remodeled our house prior to wireless, this was a must. Even with the wireless, I like having the redundancy. I had them install the CAT 5 plug on the island as well as every where else I can think of.

yep I got it too it is just as mike said, google wanted to offer to put your mobile number in your profile info so should you lose your password it is one more way for them to send it to you should you use their lost password option. If you have another email addy listed there as your default to send your info to that will work too.
I don't use my cell phone enough to bother with that so I just use an alternate email address.

I have a tool or two that will allow you to see your gmail passwords (for all your accounts) if you need it.
