Is the Electrolux built-in microwave a convection microwave?

I can't find this information anywhere on the Electrolux website or from searches in this forum. I guess my brain is fried after hours of kitchen appliance research, it's probably right in front of me somewhere.

Model number is EW30MO55HS, which will go on top of the Electrolux (not Icon) 30" single wall oven.

We're comparing the KA Architect II vs. Electrolux for this setup. KA is a bit pricier (not by much) but their microwave is definitely convection so I want to make sure I'm comparing apples to apples. Based on the price ($1400) for the Electrolux microwave I'd be surprised if it *wasn't* convection...

OK, enough rambling, hopefully someone out there has the answer - my local shop was clueless on Electrolux so I wouldn't trust their response if I asked them...

They have both kinds: micro and micro + convection

It is not convection. When checking out an appliance like that just do a seach for that number you gave

We have the Electrolux Icon "Speed Oven"--that is the combination Microwave & Convection oven.
We have had it close to 4 years now and it is our most used appliance--baked potatoe or Sweet Potatoe in 7 minutes.We do toast in it, even boiled spaghetti in it when our cooktop (Not an Electrolux) died.

I don't know anything about the Electrolux models other than what my friend Gary (Dodge1959) tells me, but the first thing I would look for is a blown fuse inside the unit. Don't open it up unless you know what you are doing. There is a big capacitor in there that will bite you if not properly discharged. Also, if you take it apart and don't put it back together perfectly you can get MW energy leaks coming out of the thing that will give you a hotfoot and man-boobs. Our local Home Depot carries a few examples of microwave fuses and they are also available online and on ebay. But you are advised to call a competent tech unless you know what you are doing. Best of luck and I hope it's a cheap and easy fix.

I really like our Wolf convection microwave. We use it for micro, convection, and mixed micro-convect cooking. No popcorn. The turntable is 14" in diameter; a 9x14 pan is too big to rotate on it.

Search the archives. This question comes up regularly. In general, many people see the benefit of having more than one oven, but few people need three or more ovens. This is a little different, if you make some of these ovens have special features. In other words, your choice of a double walloven seems rather unusual. But having a steam oven and a microwave (or better a speedoven) is quite useful, if your budget allows you to do so. These usually all are 24" devices. That's fine, as it doesn't take up unnecessary large amount of real estate and as it pre-heats much faster. But depending on what you cook, you might still need a fullsize oven in your range. If you don't need it, then a range top is a better choice.

smit2380, I actually feel the same way but wanted the French Doors. Bosch has some with side door openings but Bosch is not available in my area. I just remodeled my kitchen and bought KitchenAid (top of the line) and after 14 service calls on my refrigerator, they finally replaced it. They bought back my double wall ovens because of a health issue. After replacing the second circuit (there were 2) there was a horrible burning smell that gave me a migraine that lasted over a week. The service guy said--that is just new oven smell--I don't think so since I had the ovens for 9 months. My cooktop after having the sensors for 2 burners replaced still does not work right but they tell me that is the way it is supposed to work. One time it takes 5 mins to heat up and other times it takes 10 mins. After all of these issues and I want to build another house????? WE need a house on one level and I am still kicking myself that I did not INSIST on building 2 years ago instead of remodeling. Sorry--I did not mean to make this long.

Gary, thanks a lot. I'm going to another local shop tonight to see if I can make sense of the Electrolux microwave lineup. Lots of inconsistencies between their own website and online appliance stores.

We'd prefer the convection 'Speed Oven' as they call it, but if that's only in the Icon series then I'm not sure if it will work with the E-lux 30" wall oven that we want.

I still can't figure out why this traditional microwave costs $1400... are the Wave controls etc. worth that much?

Anyway, thanks again for the help, I'm hopeful that I'll get it sorted tonight.

You re correct cheezyproof, $1400 sounds like too much for just a microwave. We Paid $1397 for the "Speed Oven" in April of 2006, As I recall, it listed for $1600. Looks like I got a good deal on my Miele Optima Dishwasher too (Paneled) $1097 for it.
You are correct about Electrolux web-site, It Sucks (bad), you have to do a lotta navigating around to see the different models They should just have one page with all the different models of the "Speed Ovens", another page for the Microwave Models, another for ovens---etc etc.
In fact , last time I checked the site, They didn't even have their new "ALL Induction" cooktops----or if they did I wasn't gonna spend the time to "Flush Them Out"

Good luck, I should mention we also have the Electrolux Icon Convection oven, paid $1617 for that (30 Inch).
It too has been trouble free
