Speed Cook oven vs. Convection/Microwave
Comments (29)First I work in a deli and use a high speed commercial Blodgett convection ovens also use induction ranges. I cook at home every Sunday a large enough meal to feed 4 for the week, even though my daughter is as thin as a toothpick my son more then makes up for it (now 6.4" about 240) I've had the advantium for close to 20 years at home, my first was the 120v. It was a nice speed cook, a little weak microwave (only 900w) but general cooking times were much faster then conventional/ convection oven, especially casseroles, lasagna, scalloped potatoes etc... worked great! My oven was the Jenn-air, but I found to be too much to deal with cleaning to use any of the accessories Grilling frying etc, so it was really a waste of money in my new home I just have a convection oven with my Advantium. When I moved I added the Advantium 240v. even faster cooking, 1100w microwave & many more auto selections. I use my toaster oven for pizza, comes out a little better and my toaster oven is also convection so only takes a few minutes longer. The only time I use my lower oven is for holiday cooking turkey, or large roast, but even a roast alone I just use the Advantium in convection, I'll sear in large pot w/shortening, then convection in Advantium. The Advantium will sear but hot oil is faster method, and wont start cooking the meat, also searing gives off a lot a splatter. Same for steaks the splatter not worth it, a mess to clean, I just sear in pan on stove then auto cook in Advantium. I'm about to replace my Advantium (mines getting worn out). I don't think there is ANYTHING out there as flexible as the Advantium!...See MoreConvection range vs convection microwave
Comments (6)Recommend you stay away from convection/microwave unless it's a specialized type like advantium or trivection as the convection performance on most isn't that great. Not a fan of most OTR microwaves - prefer some type of solution that vents outside - although if you do very little high heat/spicy aromatic cooking, you might be able to get away with it. Would help to know if you are looking for gas, electric or dual fuel. There is an electric GE Profile with convection and two ovens. I always consider a second oven a plus since it can also be used for warming. I haven't seen a GE Profile gas or dual fuel with two ovens. There is a Bosch HDS71[5]2 dual fuel oven with convection and a warming drawer that is highly rated in Consumer's (some like consumer's recommendations/some don't) I opted for a GE Cafe AG which has convection and two ovens, but since I bought it, there has been a lot of mixed feedback from this forum. I got a "scratched" model for 2/3 price and then paid up for extended service contract. Mine is due to be hooked up in about a week (fingers crossed nervously). Best wishes - HTH....See MoreOlder (unused) GE Advantium vs. new Profile convection microwave
Comments (0)This weekend we found an older model Advantium wall oven (240) for $50 at the Habitat Restore. Manufactured 8/2005, it's kind of grimy on the outside, but looks pristine on the inside, and we think it was never installed. But it's not convection - just speedcook and microwave. We'd been planning on getting a new Profile convection microwave to use as a second oven (using a great multi app. GE Profile rebate coming up) but now don't know if the Advantium would work instead, or maybe even better? I just don't get, yet, the differences in how these appliances work, and how they balance out, esp. without the convection in the Advantium. I mostly wanted the 2nd smaller oven for cooking up just a few cookies at a time or a pan of brownies, lunch pizzas, casseroles, and some small roasts, plus microwave chores - I'm just cooking for two most of the time. Experiences or advice, anyone?...See MoreOlder (unused) GE Advantium vs. new Profile convection microwave
Comments (2)I, have the Profile convection oven. Great for the holiday's. and for every day use. I, use it a lot living in Arizona, not wanting to heat the house in the summer. It work's really well. It get's lot's of use. I, think the Advantium, cook's thing's faster. You, could go on the GE web site and compare them, or call GE and ask....See Morewyosue58
