speed oven vs. advantium vs trivection vs convection MW
Comments (62)I did that exactly, ellessebee. I have the 240V OTR Advantium mounted above the counter. I also have 15" wall cabinets so it fits and works like a charm. I don't think there are any differences in the cooking features between the wall oven and OTR models. The oven cavity is pretty big, because I can fit a half sheet. There are two considerations you need to keep in mind. 1. The OTR does need to vent, because it performs a cooling function after using the non-MW functions. I have mine blow out the front, above the door. In hindsight, I would have run some duct up and over to the adjacent rangehood. 2. The door needs and extra inch of clearance on the hinge side (left) to open. When the contractor first installed it, the whole unit was flush with the cabinet and looked awesome. He was so proud of himself, as was I. I went to use it later and couldn't open the door. It also blocked the exhaust in the front. He had to come back and reinstall it by tacking 2x4s (actually measured 1.5x3.5) to the back wall and then installing it. Now it all works beautifully, while taking a slight hit in the aesthetics. Another benefit to mounting the OTR model OTC is that the underside is heat and moisture resistant. So my coffee maker has a permanent home under there where I don't have to worry about the steam damaging the undersides of the cabinet. Oh, and the built in light of the OTR serves as task lighting for the area underneath. So I also saved money on lighting there. Comments (1)Speed ovens rock! Wait til you try baked potatoes - I made giant (over 1 lb each) in our GE advantium in 9 minutes flat - I have the Wolf oven but the GE monogram speed oven Definitely give it a try!...See MoreWhat is Microwave Oven / Convection Oven / Speed Oven?
Comments (6)I have the Monogram Advantium. It's a multi-purpose oven. It can act as a convection oven - basically just a second oven and it can also broil. I use this for anything small where there's no point in heating up the big oven. Mine can hold a 9x13 pan of lasagna. It's also a regular microwave oven. The speedcook part combines microwave, convection and high powered halogen lights top and bottom. There's an onboard computer that decides how much of each to use for a particular food. The convection and halogen brown, broil or roast while the microwave speeds up the cooking process. We use the speed cook part all the time and we absolutely love it. Browned crispy fish sticks and fries in 4 minutes, crescent rolls in 2-3, etc. It does the best baked potatoes ever. The oven also can act as a moist or dry warming oven which I've used several times but the problem is that when it's warming it can't be doing another cooking job. So I'm getting a new Kitchen Aid warming drawer with my remodel that also does slow cooking like a crock pot. It has a few other features like proof that I use when setting dough to rise and melt or soften for butter. All in all, it's like a swiss army knife. It's the most expensive thing in our kitchen and was worth all the money I saved up to buy it. We absolutely love it. We're glad we got the 220v version too. My mom has the 110 and there isn't enough power. I tried out the different models available at a local appliance store. The Electrolux was nice but the controls were confusing. The Advantium controls were the easiest to use of all the ones I tried with the most features....See Morespeed oven vs microwave with convection
Comments (6)Speed ovens can combine microwaving and baking to cook food faster but still tasting more or less baked/roasted. I have had a GE advantium and now have the Bosch. I rarely used the speed cooking function in the advantium and use it in the Bosch even less--to be honest, I'm not sure why I got the Bosch speed oven this go-around. I think I figured the extra cost vs a microwave with convection bake wasn't aaallll that much more. I think the advantium is better than the Bosch. The Bosch has a very limited number of programs and no ability to program it yourself. I got the Bosch because I needed an undercounter installation this time and the higher powered advantium did not allow that. If you think you really will use the speed cooking function, I suggest researching how many programs are available and whether you can program it yourself.
