Miele Speed ovens vs toaster/convection ovens?
Comments (2)We installed a Miele Speedoven in 2012 and have no regrets. It is in a wall cabinet at counter height and is used all the time. It heats up very fast for baking allowing us not to use our 36" oven when not needed. It microwaves, bakes, and broils with all types of combinations of those heating choices. The drawbacks are the price and you need a 220v line to power it. The quality is excellent and have not seen another oven that can do what this does....See Morespeed oven vs. advantium vs trivection vs convection MW
Comments (62)I did that exactly, ellessebee. I have the 240V OTR Advantium mounted above the counter. I also have 15" wall cabinets so it fits and works like a charm. I don't think there are any differences in the cooking features between the wall oven and OTR models. The oven cavity is pretty big, because I can fit a half sheet. There are two considerations you need to keep in mind. 1. The OTR does need to vent, because it performs a cooling function after using the non-MW functions. I have mine blow out the front, above the door. In hindsight, I would have run some duct up and over to the adjacent rangehood. 2. The door needs and extra inch of clearance on the hinge side (left) to open. When the contractor first installed it, the whole unit was flush with the cabinet and looked awesome. He was so proud of himself, as was I. I went to use it later and couldn't open the door. It also blocked the exhaust in the front. He had to come back and reinstall it by tacking 2x4s (actually measured 1.5x3.5) to the back wall and then installing it. Now it all works beautifully, while taking a slight hit in the aesthetics. Another benefit to mounting the OTR model OTC is that the underside is heat and moisture resistant. So my coffee maker has a permanent home under there where I don't have to worry about the steam damaging the undersides of the cabinet. Oh, and the built in light of the OTR serves as task lighting for the area underneath. So I also saved money on lighting there. Comments (8)The Speed oven is our only microwave. We really haven't run into a situation where this is a problem. As you probably know, most things that you "Nuke" don't take all that much time, but it usually a rare occasion where I would say, --- bake a potatoe and then nuke something else after that, but again if I did, most likely the potato would still be hot by the time whatever I nuked was done. Like most of the Posters on here, we tried to pick the best appliances for the job rather than get all appliances of the same brand. All our cooking appliances, (Cooktop, Oven and Speed Oven) are Elux Icon as is the wine fridge. Our fridge is a Jenn-air 48" SXS built in and panneled,we like it because of it's variable speed compressor, its works are above, making it easy to change the water filter and vacuum out the dust --yearly, (dust & cat hair less likely up there rather than at floor level). We like the digital controls for it--it has 3 sets of these controls--so you can set 3 different temps in the fridge--(one for main compartment, another temp for the "Chrisper" and a 3rd temp for the meat keeper. All have digital readouts which display the actual temps of those areas (Instead of just what you have them set for). Fridge has been quiet and trouble free for over 4 years now. For a while Elux was getting many negative reviews on their fridges (circa 2006-2009) and some folks here have started buying the newer (2010) Elux Fridges--but too early to tell yet if Elux solved their Fridge Problems, so "at best" you would be exploring "Unknown territory". Pretty much the same for Elux Dishwashers---not much info yet. We went with the Miele Optima Dishwasher because , at the time (2005-2006) it was the only DW with the top cutler tray (That was a "Must Have" for wife and I)--We both hated digging silverware out of those "dern Low baskets" Anyway, as you probably have seen , from my "Many posts", we have been very happy with the decisions we made as far as kitchen appliances, and all have met or exceeded our expectations--particularly the induction cooktop. Good luck with your pending decisions!! Gary...See MoreWolf microwave/convection oven has some "speed oven" options.
