Will you also have a MW? I would not have a speed oven in place of a MW. If the speed oven can work as a stand-alone MW, then you still have the issue...

If you're using it as a MW you don't have a second oven and
If you're using it as a second oven you don't have a MW.

If the speed oven is in addition to a MW, then I recommend it.

I have a speed oven, but it's not Viking's. I have GE's version...a Trivection double oven (Trivection/speed cook on top & convection oven on the bottom). I use the speed cook mode at least as often, if not more, than the convection mode. (I never use the "thermal" or traditional heat mode.) The speed cook is a great combination...it uses MWs to speed up cooking as well as convection for browning, etc. I now can bake potatoes in 20 minutes as opposed to the 60 minutes in a convection oven and 90 minutes in a traditional oven. Yams cook even faster (15 - 17 minutes).

Sorry should have been more specific...we would not have a stand alond microwave. We are debating between the Viking or Icon products and during the research happen to see a thread about microwaving popcorn in the Icon speed oven (so assumed it has microwave functions) which made me think the speed oven could be a perfect compromise. Am I wrong about that?

So if I am understanding your email right you would not use your speed oven (above a singe oven)as your only microwave? Is it bc you feel you may need to use both of them at the same time.

Is your speed oven the only microwave you use or do you have a stand-alone as well? Also do you have all other Icon appliances? We cant decide between all Viking or all Icon...the viking is more but not a lot more(think we are getting great deal bc we know someone but who knows). I was always under the impression that Viking was such a great product and name but heard there dishwasher stinks (but its free) and Frig is not that good. I had never even heard Electrolux until I started this but seems like it has pretty good reviews. Just so difficult to decide

The Speed oven is our only microwave. We really haven't run into a situation where this is a problem. As you probably know, most things that you "Nuke" don't take all that much time, but it usually a rare occasion where I would say, --- bake a potatoe and then nuke something else after that, but again if I did, most likely the potato would still be hot by the time whatever I nuked was done.

Like most of the Posters on here, we tried to pick the best appliances for the job rather than get all appliances of the same brand.

All our cooking appliances, (Cooktop, Oven and Speed Oven) are Elux Icon as is the wine fridge.

Our fridge is a Jenn-air 48" SXS built in and panneled,we like it because of it's variable speed compressor, its works are above, making it easy to change the water filter and vacuum out the dust --yearly, (dust & cat hair less likely up there rather than at floor level). We like the digital controls for it--it has 3 sets of these controls--so you can set 3 different temps in the fridge--(one for main compartment, another temp for the "Chrisper" and a 3rd temp for the meat keeper. All have digital readouts which display the actual temps of those areas (Instead of just what you have them set for). Fridge has been quiet and trouble free for over 4 years now.

For a while Elux was getting many negative reviews on their fridges (circa 2006-2009) and some folks here have started buying the newer (2010) Elux Fridges--but too early to tell yet if Elux solved their Fridge Problems, so "at best" you would be exploring "Unknown territory".

Pretty much the same for Elux Dishwashers---not much info yet.

We went with the Miele Optima Dishwasher because , at the time (2005-2006) it was the only DW with the top cutler tray (That was a "Must Have" for wife and I)--We both hated digging silverware out of those "dern Low baskets"

Anyway, as you probably have seen , from my "Many posts", we have been very happy with the decisions we made as far as kitchen appliances, and all have met or exceeded our expectations--particularly the induction cooktop.

Figured as much with the microwave and with us as well I doubt it will be that often where we need to use both at the same time. You sold me on the speed oven....so thx Gary.

One of the main reasons we chose the Icon and Viking was bc of the reviews of the ovens and rangetops. This led us to the next problem in that we have to put our ovens next to frig. I feel like if they are going to be right next to each other they should match exactly (right or wrong). So the only thing left was the hood and if you bought that you got a free dishwasher with Viking which made the prices very similiar. So again very hard decision but I least I decided on speed oven so thx again.

Actually our speed oven is right next to our fridge, alto the fridge is panelled. But I did want the handles to match, (Small Matchie Matchie) as the Speed oven, the regular Elux oven as well as the wine fridge all had the same handle.)Even the Miele handle is similar, just smaller.
soooooo- what we did was call Elux and order the handles for the fridge and installed it on our Jenn-air Fridge.
Looks great "to us" and who counts more than those that are in the kitchen daily?

We had a Miele speed oven in our prior home in Florida. We moved to Raleigh last year and remodeled our kitchen and put in a Viking speed oven. Having only had the Viking for two weeks, we are thinking of pulling it out and replacing it with a Miele. It's that bad. A certified Viking technition came out and said "It's a bad design".
