I was in love with all of the pictures you posted of your chandeliers. I love plaid in Christmas decorating, so I really loved the plaid one that Jim posted.

I was hoping to find some plaid lamp shades after Christmas, but I never saw any BEFORE Chrismtas. On the Saturday before Christmas, I decided to finish my wrapping at the dining room table. I started after dinner and worked until 11:00. Around 10:00 I was wrapping a package with Scotch Tape plaid paper, and I was wondering if I could use it to cover my shades. When I was done with the wrapping, I treated myself to a glass of wine, and decided to give it a try.

It's a long way from perfect, but I liked it well enough to leave it up. - Gail

Thanks, LG. I'm going to try lasagnizing about 400 square feet of back wall. I'm certain I have enough cardboard to do it, but do we get enough rain to allow the cardboard to break down, like, EVER? If I have to use newsprint it will take some scrounging. There are quite a few horses over the back wall, so I'm going to attempt to gather my courage (I am a complete wuss and hate talking to people I don't know) and see about manure and/or spoiled straw/hay. Mr Spark is going to have a total heart attack if/when he finds out I am intentionally putting manure in the back yard... BTW I'm also going to buck up and try some basic composting, probably with your "random pile inside CRM cage" method. I have no concern about browns because we have parrots and that means we use 57,423 rolls of paper towels per month wiping poop off our shoulders. Greens might be another story... next week the lawn gets mowed so I'll hope it results in a lot of clippings. (The gardeners do it and I have no idea how much they get, but I'll have them start leaving it here.) Yikes. :)

Not quite sure what you mean by bulbs. Bearded irises have a rhizome at the base of the plant. from this rhizome, new ones grow, which will produce new leaf fans, and eventually new flower stalks. These can be divided and planted as seperate plants when the clum is big enough. Dutch iris grow from a bulb which is smaller than a daffodil bulb, fairly rounded and has a brown papery outer coat. Sometimes bearded irises produce a seedpod at the top of the bloom stalk. This is green, oval in shape and can vary in size from tiny, up to as big as 3" long. This may be empty or contain seeds. If you get one of these, and you haven't deliberately hand pollenated your flowers, then you have what is commonly called a bee pod, because, presumable the bees did the work of pollenating the flower. This will contain seeds from an unknown cross. These can be planted and grown to produce new plants, all of which will be genetically different from each other and both the parent plants. Sorry about your loss, as they say. Years ago when I was teaching I had a local nursery send someone out once a month to weed in front of the house. The second spring a new employee killed about 60 perennials that were starting to break through the much. I discontinued that service, of course, and was left with only my own devices. Hubbie does recognize lots of plants now, but weeding is my job since seedlings often do not look quite like the mature plant. I have to admit that sometimes even I am not sure about small things and have to let them grow a little to make sure I want to take them out. And since our house is off the road and nobody sees it, I can take my time ...even postpone some things for a long time. It helps not to be a neatnik; my area looks like a poorly kept state park, but I love it, and that is all that counts! Let us know if you need more jacks. I doubt I will do any more rescues this summer, but you never know.

ncrealestateguy-If a buyer signs and agreement with an agent, it in no way restricts them from making a phone call. It may ruffle a few feathers, but that is it. You might operate under a particular code of ethics as an agent, but that code does not extend to the behavior of your clients. If your client wants to bypass you in any and all negotiations, that is their right. They will still need to pay you, but that is the extent of your relationship. I'm sure your recommendation works great most of the time, but these 2 agents work together at the same agency and one can't get a return call. That is just unacceptable. If the agent can get it resolved on their own, great. It doesn't appear as though that is working at this point though. As for timing/deals - a sellers agent that helps set the price on a property and then immediately buys the property at that price is behaving improperly. If the agent knows that the property is so underpriced that they immediately jump on the deal, then they didn't fulfill their duty to look after the financial interests of their client.

I think it looks fabulous and what a great idea.

For other holidays you could look at scrapbooking paper or even wallpaper borders and with double sided tape the possibilities are endless.

I have never seen plaid shades around here either!
Cmas Tree shops has very decent shades for a dollar or so, with a pretty shape. I guess I could cover my own for holidays,,,

Thank you all. As I said, I did this late at night and I didn't spend a lot of time with it. Next time, I would make a good template. With wrapping paper, there will be so many options. I'm going to be keeping my eyes opened for a good plaid for next Christmas.

Christmas Tree Shops have shades for $1? Wow, I wish we had one near by. I've never seen the chandelier shades for less than $4 except when they're on sale. The ones I have were $2.50 on close out. - Gail

Great idea - don'tcha just love those 'bingo' moments - that idea has endless possibilities. Now I am wishing I had shades instead of globes hanging down - uuummmmmmmm I do have a ceiling fan/light fixture in the living room that could be changed out .......
