Is MS Firewall Sufficient Protection ?

I had Kaspersky 2011 detect a Keylogger yesterday. I run Win 7

Home Premium with everything updated weekly. My MS Firewall is enabled as is MS Essentials. I was thinking of getting a

Stand Alone Firewall but I think it might couse problems with

the Windows 7 Stuff. Your ideas & help are most welcome.

you can certainly get a stand alone firewall if you do simply turn off the built in windows firewall.

If you had a keylogger and the previous infection you mentioned I highly recommend you visit this help forum and ask assistance they will have you run some specific scans to determine if everything is now gone, it is doubtful that all has been removed. You need to register then post a thread in the area I link to, state everything you have had happen and give all the info you can, then follow the directions given. You really should do this especially if you had a keylogger.If you need help let me know I am there also.

Yes, McAfee is an incoming and outgoing firewall, although you can change a setting so that you're not notified if a program attempts to access the Internet (but that's not advised). Basically, the built-in Windows firewall is better than nothing at all, but not by much. If you want real protection, get the McAfee, especially since your ISP offers it at no cost to you. Until you get the McAfee installed, you should at least be using the Windows firewall. But as soon as you install McAfee, you should disable the Windows firewall.

Vala55, yes it is the only protection I am using. It is an anti virus and anti malware combine. That along with the Windows 7 firewall Now, this is not necessarily a recommendation for others to follow, it is just my way of seeing if the one program can/will do the job. It can and does. On my other machines I use Superantispyware, Malwarebytes, Spywareblaster and what ever anti virus I feel is the flavour of the day, currently Avast and Avira.

I would recommend Spyware Terminator. It integrates the ClamAV antivirus program and scans for both spyware and viruses. Spyware Terminator has realtime protection. Computer safety becomes a very personal thing. There are those who run about almost naked while others are so paranoid they get little enjoyment from their machines. I run Avast A/V, Superantispyware, Malwarebytes, Spywareblaster and Zonealarm on one computer. The same on another except I replace Malwarebytes with Spybot Search & Destroy and the MS firewall (which will soon be replaced by PC Tools firewall. On a third computer I loaded Threatfire but cannot comment as the whole computer is giving me a big headache - perhaps that is how I got the P4 for free in the first place, haha.
