List of AV,firewall, malware apps?

Hello,

From reading on this forum I've let my NIS expire and have downloaded the free versions of AVG and Zone Alarm. I already had SuperAntiSpyware and Adaware. I use CCleaner every couple of months. I'm wanting to know if these programs are adequate to protect my computer. Do I need anything else?

I know you've probably answered this question a thousand times and although I know it's there, I couldn't find one of the posts very quickly by doing a search. Thank you so much.

I would suggest adding spywareblaster it will help immunize your browsers and prevent some of the browser take overs and issues that happen. It is free but you do have to remember to open it and update it about once a week, no scans to run just open, hit update, then enable all protection so the shield is green and you are done till the next week.

It is one program that should be on every pc.
Be sure to remember to update and scan with superantispyware about once a week or so.

I also suggest everyone do one of the online Antivirus scans every so often just to make sure the one on your pc is catching everything.

I have begun to recommend to users that they download and install the free application Belarc for another reason other than its traditional use. On the top of the system report there is a portal to downloading a Microsoft update database. Once created this utility will advise a user if any O/S update is missing and affords the opportunity to research the nature and priority of the missing update.

I am sorry that I brought up this subject but it is a problem as I own it goes with nothing I have including the external drive. I worry that it will cause conflict with other programs. I have a foggy brain now and I don't know when it is appropriate to stop asking for help. I asked a lot of you and there may be a cut off that I should understand. It is, of course my fault, because this happened before when I got to a critical point in a graphics link. It was a weekend and that has to be the worst time here. I ended up going to a computer service and they did find the problem. I find it an honor to get help from this team who seems to love to help and the challenge. If you are not interested in the question do you ignore it, wait for a knowledgeable person to step in or let time go buy and I will understand. My manners concerning forum etiquette are a mess as I have proven lately.

Interesting enough, computer was fine until I tried to open Photoshop C3. Like last week, it gets stuck on MMXCore Routines when opening. Tried uninstalling it last week, but apparently it didn't happen. Thought maybe it would open since computer was running okay now. Computer crashed. I downloaded SuperAntispyware onto another of my computers and at the end of the download it said "SuperAntiapyware had encountered a problem and had to close." I (probably not wisely) restarted the program and ran it. It found problems, quarantined and removed them, but when the computer restarted the black screen came up and said there are problems starting and do I want to go to normal startup or safe mode came up. I tried both but still had problems so I had to go to system restore to a previous date. Should I just not bother with SuperAntispyware or is there something I should do to get it to download properly. I love belarc it is one very valuable tool, I think everyone should have it, I love the fact you can check what MS updates you are missing and get info on them too.

I do a full print out on each of my computers when I get them and put it in a separate file for that pc, then I update it about every six months or so, that way should I need to know asap something about that pc I just pull the latest belarc list.

ravencajun, I have tried the BitDefender online scan link and it takes me to a site that says I have to accept a "trialpay offer" that includes citi bank, FTD, Chase bank, etc. (?)and then I'll get the scan for free. Do you think there a different link that will just let me do the scan?

PFmastin, I just went directly to the link RC posted and it said nothing about what you mention. Did you do the one on the right, with the red "I agree"? I actually even scanned the entire eula for what you saw and didn't see it.

Did DL and started it but the scan was taking so long (even w/cable connection) and couldn't be minimized so I'm going to do it later, when I'm not using computer. Sandy

This is the oddest thing...clicking on the link in Firefox gives you a totally different screen than clicking on it in IE. When I changed to IE, the screen is different and the "I agree" is right there...it's not on the link via Firefox.

At any rate, thanks so much for your post or I wouldn't have tried it through IE. I appreciate it!

It is odd how the different browsers work. I can understand working differently, but taking us to a completely different link is really weird.

On the Test Forum recently we were learning HTML code. Most codes worked fine but 2 of us just couldn't make words blink. Seems it doesn't work in IE but does in FF.
