E-mail problem

I'm trying to send an email to a friend which includes a web site address. The address is highlighted but when I tested it to see if the site would come on and pointed the mouse nothing happened. This could be something very simple as I am a bit technically challenged. Thanks very much.

In some email programs, when you are composing, the hotlink doesn't work. This is true, for example, in Hotmail. What program are you using?

To test whether the link works, you can put yourself on the email as a BCC, and then send it. Check on the link when you receive the copy. Even if the link doesn't work, hopefully your friend is savvy enough to be able to copy and paste it.

I often test emails by sending to myself from or to my yahoo account.

Thanks for the replies. I believe it is a Verizon issue, because I hadn't done anything to it and at about three o clock, EDT, I clicked on it again and about 10 messages came up, which I could read, but then the error message (the one I put in the link) came up again. About 5 minutes later, I tried it again, and got the message asking for the PW again. When I clicked on cancel, I got the big error message again. I guess I'll just wait it out for a few hours to see what happens, before attempting anything else.

Her email is not being rejected as Spam. What I tried to explain was the possibility that her Internet provider is allowing someone to send out Spam. If that is the case and SORBS are involved they would send the offending ISP a warning, if they heed the warning and close the spammer down all is well. However if they are tardy and fail to act then SORBS acts as an intermediary and blocks everything leaving that particular server. An internet provider can have numerous servers and if only one is involved in Spam then only that one gets blocked. That is why I asked if every email gets blocked or some. So.......... why not try this When the email is returned to the other person what is the reason given? Is it every piece or most of them getting returned? Have your friend right click on the returned message then click Properties, then Details then Message source. Bring this up to full screen and read down through the message. It seems likely that your server is allowing Spam to go out so her internet provider is blocking that server entirely. Look for the word SORBS - it may also be other companies but SORBS are big into this. Until that happens you are not going to know very much for sure.

Can we assume both posters use and keep updated programs for anti virus and things like Spybot S&D, Spywareblaster, AdAware, AVG anti malware or similar programs? I think I would run at least one free online scan to be sure I did not have nasties messing my machine about. Here are a couple if you do not have any bookmarked. BitDefender and Ewido. Then send yourself a couple of emails and see if things have improved. While you are working at a fix for this you could consider signing up for a free online (or web based) email account at Yahoo, Hotmail or other service to use. Always a good idea anyway for when web sites demand an email address.

Any decent mail program should be able to use any email address. Are you double-clicking on an email to open it? If yes, don't. It should open with one click & then it won't open a new tab. If it is opening a new tab with one click, then something is configured wrong. If you google, there are ways to disable tabs in TB but you might find that the end result is even more troublesome.

I have hotmail and you have to go through several steps when inserting a link in an email if you want it to be clickable if using firefox, if using IE it does it automatically it is one of my main gripes of the new hotmail.

I have a great add on for firefox that I use, any link or url address anywhere that is not a clickable link I just put the cursor on the text of the address and double click and it will open it in a new tab, it makes it clickable.
It is called text link
