netflix.com, Firfox and IE, one user lost images another did not

Netflix.com, starting yesterday I have lost some, not all, images. The ones you might be most familiar with are the ratings stars.

I get a rectangle where the stars should be. Mouseover works.

XP. Rrecent but not latest Firefox and IE, Ad-block, Ad-aware, Avast. None updated in last week or so, (Unless some update themselves in the night.)

Here's the curious part - to me. I lose the images using both Firefox and IE in my user only. Same computer, different user, the images are still there.

How do I start to diagnose this?

I would try first clearing your cache in IE and firefox, then try firefox in it's safe mode, go to start, all programs, mozilla firefox> safemode. That will run it with out any of the add ons or extras to see if something there is interfering. You can choose to run IE with out add ons also.
Then just to rule out malware I would do a malwarebytes scan, update it and then run FULL scan.

You should keep this as part of your protection and update and run it weekly it is a much better program than ad-aware and is one more layer and it is free.
I would also run an online scan

Apparently a known problem that manifest itself when Netflix changed some formatting.

Now Netflix will not support >tools>options>colors>'allow pages to choose ... [unchecked] ... ' Must now be checked to get this Netflix feature.

Hmm, I had not read the whole MS page but basically you only need to follow the first 2 instructions. I have never had to use those other instructions myself. Remember that if you get flustered just click the Cancel button to get out of where you are. There is nothing to be afraid of when using System File Checker. You It simply goes through your computer checking all the operating system files and replaces those which are corrupt or missing. The need for the CD is so it can get the needed files to install for you. The slight downside is that it takes the computer back to when your particular CD was created which means you will be behind on security updates and possibly a service pack. No big deal there either, you simply go to the windows update site and the computer grabs whatever it needs. You are doing nothing wrong. Who knows why those files went missing. Perhaps/probably it was due to the power outage. You can of course extract and install each of those files if you wish to avoid using SFC. Follow the instructions here to do that for each file. You do not have to do them all at one time. Try one, see how it goes then do others as you feel up to the task.

Ravencajun - I'm not sure how putting my tag in the URL will work for me bc.t he way I am tagging is to tag potentially 3-20 items (bookmarks) for one person's gifts. So let's say I have found 14 items that I might want to get my mother-in-law (Mary). If I tag Mary, there are 14 items with that tag. So if I type Mary in the URl, I wouldn't think it would bring up 14 sites. I guess it depends on how you use tags. I'm using them to store groups of ideas for a single tag. Another use I plan to try soon is to categorize recipes this way. So I might have a tag that gives me the recipe source (cooking forum, barefoot contessa, magazine etc.), and also by type (like appetizer, salad, vegetable, entree) and perhaps by specific ingredients. So when I go back to search, I'm not trying to bring up just one bookmark, but the entire group of bookmarks I've made for that category. I have also wanted to get Foxmarks to sync my bookmarks across computers, but I read one review that made me hesitate. It suggested that Foxmarks could sell this information - for companies that want to follow market trends, etc. Do you have any concerns about that information being stored someplace other than your own computers? Another question I have in terms of security with foxmarks is that it would be very handy to store information - passwords, address, phone, etc that I have to enter each time I fill out information on line. But again, I wasn't sure what was safe and what wasn't. Any guidelines as to what information you would safely store in foxmarks? Thanks. Lynn.

Broken router collet - what did I do?

OK... so back to lowe's, exchange the router, get a "new" one. I get it open and it's a used model. Hrm. Back to the same project. 17.5" of routing 1/4 inch at a time to total depth of 3/4". I get done with my 12th pass and pop, out comes the bit after a noisy pass. Another broken collet. When I went to unscrew the nut, it was loose. Is it like a lug nut where you tighten, drive, then tighten again? The instructions specifically say you don't have to really strain to tighten, and I give it a good tug, then stop. At this point I'm blaming my novice (read, first time ever) routing skills rather than a quality manufacturer for a double break.

I found another discrepancy between Netflix and Firefox. (This is an FYI for anyone who uses both Netflix and Firefox. The problems are being reported elsewhere.)

>tools>options>colors>'allow pages to chose ... ' checked will not save my vcolors on some screens - but, I do get to see my ratings stars. (A Firefox tweaking forum acknowledges this as a known problem with this option.)

All I can say is that I use Firefox almost exclusively and have never had a problem viewing/doing anything on Netflix. Why don't you at least upgrade to the latest version of Firefox and see if that helps any?

So -- I decided to try >tools>options>colors>'allow pages to chose' ... checked.

There is some really ugly stuff out there.

NoSquint :: Add-ons for Firefox fixed the Netflix problem annoyance which has persisted since on or before the OP, Mar 4th.

I like the zoom better than any I have previously used and it can be used to eliminate the ugly, dark background colors found on many sites.
