Tub / Shower Combo in Small Bathroom

Our small room allows only for a tub shower combination (we have room for 60" x 33" alcove). Our acrylic module has served its purpose but it is time for an upgrade. We are considering the air tubs. Looked at the Bain Thalassa, Azur, and Amma models. I'd love to hear from someone that has an air tub that doubles as a shower also. I know the height is a concern, but I think that's something I could live with. We would like to put in a clear shower door, but need help with this decision please.

I just installed a very deep tub in our hall bath which also has a shower (it is for our teenage girls). It is the Kohler Greek which measures 48" x 32 and is almost 24" deep. While it is not an air tub, it is about as deep as tubs get. I don't know how to link to other posts but I posted some pictures about six weeks ago under the title "pics of my new bathrooms" so if you search that you can see. We installed the tub the opposite way (that is, the 32" end faces out). You will see that we included a step in front and a grab bar, so stepping in and out is not a problem. We also were able to go without any glass because we have a rain head which dramatically reduces the area that gets wet.

The step might not work for you but if you would consider doing a rain head rather than a traditional shower head, then you would easily be able to use a shower screen (sort of like a half door). It can really open up the space and is less glass to clean. Also, maybe the grab bar would be a good idea given that you want a deep tub.

We went with an Americh Turo tub. It was the only one that was 18 inches high, instead of the 20-22 typical of tubs that have the whirlpool features. This tub can also be ordered with a whirlpool, but I didn't look into that since we wanted a plain tub. So far, it's working out well as a tub and shower combo. However, it does feel deep if it were filled to capacity - I may worry if I had small children (but, I don't have kids, so I'm not sure at what age I would feel comfortable).

I hadn't thought about a wall mounted sink at all! I'd like something more traditional looking than the Jazz but it's definitely an option. With some quick googling, I found the Duravit 1930. It's only 14.5" deep! Thanks again. :)

Wow, thanks bumble doodle! Tt is great to know that the tub works well as a shower. We are tall too--at least most of us (two of my teenage daughters are twins and one is 5'2" and the other is 5'10", so maybe the short one complains a bit but that's ok, since she complains about everything!) We are getting the non-jetted version. Also, I am hoping that building the deck at the front will help with the water spray. I am pushing the tub back into an alcove under the window the long way (so we get into the tub at the 32" side rather than from the 48" side) and we are trying to go without shower doors in order to make the bath feel open. With a deck, we buy a few more inches of length to help avoid water on the floor. We may not succeed and will put a panel on if we have to. Any thoughts on this?

I don't have any direct experience with this equipment, but I can give an opinion about the functions of the shower heads in the two set-ups. In the Museo set the shower head is only a rainhead style and cannot be switched. If everyone in the house likes that style, fine. If they don't, they are stuck, as the handheld is not shaped like a shower head and has only two settings. This narrow hand-held wand does easily get everywhere to rinse in creases and such, though. In the Elm set, the shower head has 5 settings and the handheld has another 3 settings and is shaped like another (smaller) shower head. It gives a lot of different choices in spray pattern. You could even set the holder for the hand-held sprayer on the adjacent wall and get a body spray effect if the diverter allows two heads to be on at the same time. In my experience, the amount of water pressure you have determines what your spray patterns are really like. If you are in an area with lower pressure or higher pressure, this should be your first consideration. For instance, I would never get a simple rain head style and have it hang at an angle (as Museo does) in low water pressure. It would have to be level to work correctly in low pressure. I hope that I have given you some points to think about with these two shower systems.

The air and whirlpool tubs are all deep. I would consider if you want to climb in an out of a deep tub every time you want to take a shower.
