I've never seen Crema Marfil like that. There's standard CM which might be builders grade, and then there's the select grade that has less veining and color variation. I've never seen it with brown areas like that though, even on builders grade. Maybe another tile was substituted. I like it with the mosaic, but I think some of the ones which the orangy blotches that look like rust spots on top should be changed out. The rest look pretty with the trim and I like the scattered areas of more distinct veining. It picks up the trim.

I've never seen Crema like that, either, but this is where the matter of taste comes in, and it's YOUR bathroom, so you opinion is the one that counts...... but I like this stone BETTER than normal crema! I think it's got way more personality! But some prefer the calmer look of a more bland stone....

I agree with Bill and blondelle--it is more interesting looking than your avg crema marfil and looks terrific with your border tile (which is awesome BTW!).

That said, if you wanted (and had specified) a calmer, more monochromatic field tile (in this case, your typical crema marfil), than you have a right to have that (or a the very least, some form of compensation for keeping this tile--my parents were given the wrong size tile in their kitchen, so they got some $ back from the builder--paid for the wallpaper mom used in the powder room!).

I also agree that the ones with the orangey blotches (or at least the worst ones) should be swapped out if you decide to stick with this tile.

I LOVE the glass mosaic - can you share what they are? I'm also not loving the CM but perhaps you could make it work with the right accessories? I don't hate it - you just need to make it work unless the contractor is willing to make some adjustments.

I'm really upset because 1) these tiles are not CM like the builder promised and 2) they have these ugly orange blotches that always make the shower look dirty. Darker veins, maybe ok, but orange and dark brown blotches, no. I am hoping that they would agree to replace the tiles with something that looks more like CM.

Have you paid for it yet? If not, you hold all the cards. (ever hear of the Golden Rule? The one with the gold makes the rules?) :-) I just did a small job this past week and ended up changing out several cut tiles that I thought were MORE than fine (and if you've seen my work, you know that's saying something), and yet, the homeowner disagreed and wanted them changed. Out they came.

Thanks Bill. The problem (?) is these are already grouted in. Is it easier to just rip the whole thing out and re-do or only change a few tiles (will that damage the others)? If the former, I would want to have what people would consider to be standard CM tiles (fairly clean, creme colors). If the latter, then I will probably have to live with some of the "character" others have noted, with the darker veining which is a different look.

They should be able to change the few tiles.

Can you visit the supplier and see what they are selling as crema marfil? Is it possible he got something else, whether by accident or because it was close and less expensive? It almost looks to me like "seconds" but I don't know if there is such a thing in the world of marble tiles. It is a gorgeous shower and the trim is fabulous. I hope you can get it the way you want.

Thanks for all your input everyone. I managed to get the builder to replace the tiles. Phew! I don't know what happened here, but unlike last time, they will let me review the new tiles before installing.

If it was me I would make the builder give me a huge discount and just change out the ones with the orangy spots. I think if that's done it will look really pretty. Just make believe the marble is called something else. Tell everyone it's some super expensive rare marble from Italy :-).
