Strange Message @ Startup

The last 2 days, when I start my computer, I get the message...

"This application has failed to start because MFC71.DLL was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

If I just click on the red X on the message, everything is fine. I did Google this, but still don't understand...

"mfc71.dll is the module that contains the Microsoft Foundation Classes (MFC) functions used by applications created in Microsoft Visual Studio Non-system processes like mfc71.dll originate from software you installed on your system. As most applications store data in your system's registry, it is likely that your registry has suffered fragmentation and accumulated harmful errors. I haven't installed/uninstalled anything since the new FF last week.

I don't feel like playing around in the registry, so should I be concerned?

you do not want to turn off any of those except maybe the sidebar one the rest are needed for windows, windows defender is a security program. You can download and add Gadgets online from Windows Sidebar Gallery. The file sidebar.exe is located at "C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar\". If you find Windows Sidebar useless, you can easily disable it. To do so: * Right click on the sidebar or sidebar icon, and choose properties. * Uncheck the "Start Sidebar when Windows starts" checkbox. * Click OK. sidebar.exe A process library will help you find what various startup processes are, this is one example of a process library. Process Library Now when you look up a name in a process library you may find where it says in some cases this could be a virus or trojan etc, what is important in those cases is to look at WHERE the file is found, if found in the proper folder location it is a safe needed file, if a file with that name is found in some other strange location then it could represent a virus. This used to only happen to me when I posted two in a row (when I thought of something I forgot to include) so I would add a "P.S...." in the subject line of the 2nd post to get around the message. Lately though, I'll get that message when I've posted, several others have posted after me, and I post again. In one thread there were maybe 5 other's responses between my initial post and my second one. Very odd. Changing the subject line still works, tho.

I've got that "Internal Server Error" a number of times, especially when I ask for a change in a lot of info re stocks. Usually I just go back and ask for it again. But I don't think that I've ever seen anything related to astrology in the message: looks spurious to me. Maybe it's an SOB, i.e "Skip On By". ole joyful

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop. Click here
Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Full Scan", then click Scan.
The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts,click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer,please do so immediately.

If you already have Malwarebytes installed, please update it before scanning with it.

Shax it looks like that file name is used by a few programs. No doubt you may have removed it when removing another program, have you deleted any program lately?

If you can identify the program it belongs to then simply re-install that program and it should be fixed. Do not download a file from the net as you have no idea if that would be the correct version for the program yours is intended to work with.

I'd probably just search my c drive for it and if not found in system32 folder put a copy into that folder... and see what happens. Plus run a spyware program.

Thanks for the suggestions...

The first thing I did when I saw the message was to update and run MBAM, SAS and SWBlaster...all clean. (I do run them all weekly anyway, in conjunction with Avast).

It doesn't seem to be affecting the operation of my computer just an annoying daily pop-up.

Am a bit leery about downloading a copy of the file, as most of the sites offering it are WOT red and yellow, while the others suggest running a registry scan/repair, which scares me.
Might have to live with it...

Problem solved!

Mikie kindly emailed me the missing file, I moved it to my system32 folder, and it works!
