Terrapots do you use Zonealarm as your firewall and ar you running XP SP2? On another form this was an issue for a number of us for a very long time and there seemed to be nothing to correct it. Then another member swapped from Zonealarm to Comodo - problem solved. As soon as she posted her findings I swapped to Comodo too and my problems have disappeared. Comodo is free. Like you I blamed and swapped the router - 3 different ones - to no avail. Kept using the Start/Run ipconfig bit for momentary benefits, unplugged the router and/or the modem with no long term benefits too. Zonealarm note for others. There is nothing wrong with Zonealarm for the big majority of users but for a few this has been an issue.

Interesting reads and emotions here. I'm not an AT&T subscriber, user or stock holder. We use Verizon for our cell and hard wire phone provider. Anyway, a router works by taking the internet signal and splitting it into different addresses within your home network. In order to be able to do this the router must be receiving the signal to begin with. Regular routers receive their signals from modems (cable or satellite). If you are going to be grabbing a wireless signal similar to the way a cell phone receives you need a mobile modem:router. So, to answer your first question, AT&T is being honest with you. You need an AT&T mobile modem:router to receive the AT&T wireless signal, just like you need an AT&T compatible cell phone to receive an AT&T cell phone signal. The answer to your second question is no. Your D-link wireless router can't receive the wireless AT&T signal so it will not work. AT&T is not the only game in town, so to speak, when it comes to wireless phone and internet service. If you don't like them and/or don't trust them what are you doing using them?

Goldsmom is right. I just tried to call my mom tonight and the same thing happened to me. I purchased a new ATT card from Walmart (900-minutes) this past March 2007 and when I made the call to my mom who lives in the same state as I live, all of sudden the number of minutes instantly dropped from 900 to 112 minutes. As the ATT representative explained to me all calling card users are now required to pay the same intrastate calling fees as customers with domestic phone service who have been paying these fees as part of their monthly phone service. So in other words, for each minute I use on my card, ATT would charge 8 times this amount for intrastate access. This equates to 23-cents a minute to make an instate call here in South Dakota, or almost a buck for every 4 minutes that I talk to my mom using the ATT calling card. This is probably true with other calling cards out there. Does anyone know if there are calling cards available for low "intrastate" calling? I searched the internet and can find phone cards as low as 1-cent a minute for long-distance state to state, but can't find any card that has low rates for making state to state calls. Please help, else I will have to cave in and buy some monthly calling plan which always costs me more in the long run, because I make so few calls a month to begin with.

Cynic, this is for you. Consumer Reports released its annual assessment of US wireless carriers and placed AT&T in last place for the third year in a row. In its latest report, the consumer product review company ranked AT&T at the bottom of the heap among the top seven wireless carriers in the US. The only bright spot for AT&T was its 4G network, which got decent ratings. Ironically, the top wireless carrier in the US was Consumer Cellular, an MVNO that runs on AT&T�s network. This placement suggests that much AT&T�s low ratings stem from poor customer service and a generally low perception of its service. It�s not due to the network�s poor performance. Verizon was the top national carrier and in the middle among all carriers. Sprint landed right in the middle with average scores across the board, while T-Mobile was ranked just above AT&T.
