Is my Ethernet card really bad?

I have AT&T DSL and lately I've been having trouble finding the site. I contacted AT&T and they checked out my modem, etc. They ended up by telling me that I had a bad ethernet card, just to replace it and everything would be fine. I am hardwired to the modem at one desktop and have an additional desktop and laptop wireless connections which also cannot connect sometimes. My problem with that solution is that the problem can be corrected by shutting down my computer or shutting down my computer, modem and router, then restarting them in that order. They will all work fine until I leave my destop on through the night, then next morning I'll have a problem with all computers. I don't seem to have a problem if I leave my laptop running with lid closed. I had a problem with my router a couple of months ago and replaced router with router/access point and Linksys had to change the IP address (I think that is what happened) to get everything to work again, they spent about 4 hours or more on the phone with me through all their skill levels to get everything working. Any ideas? I will call Linksys, I just need to reserve a large block of time in case their resolution goes on and on, which I dread (timewise, not their service).
