Im thinking of a stone skirt like this with simiilar brick. No stucco and no other stone on the elevation above skirt. Keystones around the windows. Other ideas welcome! Happy to pay someone with photoshop skills to give me a few renderings. Expensive job to not nail it right the first time.

Another example I put together

Stone and brick rarely look good together, and the flood height water table line never looks good. Pick stone or brick, but not both. And use it at the natural foundation line, or as the entire section covering it from bottom to top. The natural location for that would be either the main body of the home, or the two bumpouts. And then use some sort of siding for the rest.

"2500 sq foot bungalow"?

That is one mishmash of house. It shows very well why brick and stone don't work together. The high waisted stone, is in a whole other class of bad examples. It doesn't even follow a consistent level line around the home. Your house has the big opportunity to not make those mistakes!

I was in the same boat as you a week ago when I had to finalize my selection of brick, stone, and stucco. I decided that I didn't care for the look of the two together so I changed it all to stone and stucco. I don't feel overwhelmed about it anymore! They start the wrap this week. I'll let you know how it goes.

Do you have to do both brick and stone?

Brick and stone combinations in the way your proposing to use them are not favored in this forum.

Brick and stone can and have been successfully used together for centuries. The main structure is brick. The stone is used as accents for keystones, window ledges, and other trim work around windows and doors. That is a classic, in my opinion, look for houses. Often those classic structures use a red or dark brick.

If you did the bump outs alone on this house, you would end up with what I call the zebra stripe look. It's never pretty. If you feel you must use some stone, use it on the two end wings of the house. (This is probably the garage and the opposite end) or just the center porch section of the house.

The waterline always takes the house down a few feet as it adds a horizontal line, making it look shorter and squatter. Is there another siding choice you can use? Or do you need a fire resistant exterior?

If you did stone only at the natural foundation level it could make design sense.

But there is nothing the matter with building a house that is clad only in one material, all brick/all stone/all stucco/all wood.
