Starfire or regular glass - how green is regular glass
Comments (15)We used 3/8" Starphire glass with Clear Shield for our guest bathroom shower. We saved some $ by using 3/8"--it doesn't feel flimsy at all, and for a little-used shower, getting 1/2" glass just wasn't worth the added expense. We did "up-charge" by using Starphire (we wanted the white tiles in the shower to look white, without a greenish tint). We also had Clear Shield applied (similar to Showerguard in that it protects the glass from etching/filming; different application process)--DH and I did use that shower exclusively while our other two bathrooms were being reno'd. We felt the added protection was well worth any additional cost, especially over the long term. My personal feeling is, glass protection is definitely worth having. You're making an investment, so why not do what you can to help keep it looking good? Different glass shower door fabricators/suppliers might use different products, so you should ask your door people if they use one vs the other (our guys use Clear Shield, so that's what we got). Starphire is a good choice, if the greenish tint of regular glass will change the look of your tile/walls (unless you don't mind the tint). As I mentioned, we wanted our white tiles to look nice and white when viewed through the glass. If it is within your budget, and you will be happier with clearer glass, I think it's a good choice....See MoreFrameless Glass Shower Door Swing Dilemma - Please Look and Help
Comments (38)with 3 young boys I really wanted a urinal in my house, space doesn't allow it and my husband thinks it's a terrible idea. When I dream about installing one I think of all the clean up it would save. Though my boys are being trained to clean up after themselves - I think my 89 yr old is pretty good at it but my 5 yr old and training 2 yr old are not nearly as efficient as necessary. I am one woman who thinks it's a great idea! Rachel...See More'Gallery' in our stairwell--what do you think of this look?PICS
Comments (13)I agree, I think the leaves would look darling in a vertical grouping -- perhaps in a bathroom, or kitchen maybe -- and yes with the darker stripes downward, as if they are the ground. I think "eclectic" is neat but it can be a bit hard to pull off gracefully. I actually hired a decorator once and she came out and started telling me that my antiques were not all from the same period. So what? The average person wouldn't even know that, much less care. And if their opinions are THAT critical, surely they can find their way back to the front door. That said, I think it's lovely that you're decorating with the tings you love. Ultimately it's YOU who needs to be pleased with your own home -- and you do have a lovely home. If the wall makes you feel good when you look at it, then you've reached your goal. If it makes your guests feel good, that's a bonus. Stairwells are a bear to decorate, I think. I wish they would do a few HGTV shows on stairwells and teensy weensy entry halls/foyers. One of these days we should have a big ol' thread on stairwells and teensy landings. My front door comes in at my landing and I don't have pretty railings like you do. I just have a half wall with a cap of wood on it. What does one do with that? I lack the skills or I'd whip out a saw and rectify that problem. Good luck with getting the arrangement just the way you want it, and please post pictures when you're done....See MoreWe are remodelling a small bathroom. Looking for shower glass walls
