With the questionable cd in the drive, open MY COMPUTER
- RIGHT-CLICK on your D: drive (or which ever drive is your CD drive)
- Choose "Scan with Anti-virus program" or similar wording
- Within a min you will get a mini report that will tell you if it found any infection on the cd or not.

Insert the cd in the drive, open MY COMPUTER

I'm thinking that a Lot of the folks looking for help are probably .. fairly new to the pc world?

I myself have friends that if they had to do anything other than send email or play games .. they would be totally lost.

There is one friend that, even though I've tried my best to show her How to open a browser .. I still have to do it for her.
This person is in no way dumb,(CPA).. she's just not that interested in knowing everything that can be done on a pc.

Besides .. What would all of us do Here if it weren't for these folks? LOL

I have always professed self-help first and will continue to do so. It is a great learning tool and expands the thought process in problem solving regardless of the targeted concern. If you visit the forum often enough you will see reoccurring threads where members ask for help or advice and you can see they have done nothing to help themselves when on-board help, manufacture's websites and search engines are readily available. If a responding member can put a few keywords into a search engine to obtain information. I can't understand why the questioner hasn't tried first.

My position is the same with the forum's search engine. The FAQs and the homepage clearly instruct viewers to conduct a site search before posting a question as it may have been prevoously addressed.

If the member does not know how to address the concern properly in regards to terminology or does not understand the research responses all members, and with me hopefully leading the way. are readily prepared to assist.

You know, I feel like someone slapped me with a newspaper across the nose, and I want to apologize for the inconvenience I am causing someone by posting in the computer forum for information.
As I have ADD, it is hard for me to understand the written word sometimes, and tho reading it one day differs from another, having a real live person on the other end of my question makes it more understandable most times, which is why I always ask for baby steps, or simple way.
I always worry that I am interferring with someone else's time and do appreciate any responses I receive, and always most grateful to have someone help me in a pinch. I feel like a foolish puppy asking questions as it is, as a senior, I should be able to forge ahead on my own, but always afraid, no matter what I do seems to be wrong.
Let me extend my deepest apologies to anyone that feels I should be going ahead on my own, and yes, I probably should, tho as I stated, is so nice to have a real person on the other end, confirming what I am doing is right, and true.
Thanks to owbist, TXken, and also zep,raven, and those others from long ago, Dreamweaver in particular, she was the kindest and most gracious lady ever, and scads of others too, I have learned a lot, and most grateful to anyone that has ever posted to a question that I have, it has been written and copied in a notebook many times, and still I feel insecure at times. The machine has it's own life, and I am not in control.

Well, I apparently must be that someone and no apology is necessary. You're just fine as you don't give your self credit. I have been reading your questions and posts for some time now and I must share that I have recognized a computer maturity. You should be proud. However, you do miss my point, and it is not directed at you as an individual.

The recognized greatest learning tool is self-teaching. It might not be the fastest nor is it always totally accurate. What it is though is its paced to one's ability, causes channeled thinking, and develops confidence when successful.

Computers,peripherals and software are an ever continuing maze, and we all started without a map or a compass. Learning is what leads each of us through the maze. However, none of us ever really exit as questions continue to appear.

There is absolutely nothing wrong in asking a question or for help. My promotion is that members need to try to help themselves first. I have been fortunate enough to be here at the forum since 1999 and have seen newbie members grow with knowledge and confidence. Some of them are the current mainstays of today's forum. As a courtesy I won't name them as I wish not to embarass them.

I personally know more than some people and less than most. For those issues I do not know anything about I can most often Google. And, I can also Google and locate an answer to many of the questions that appear here. The thing is how in the long run does it help a member if I do the Googling for the answer.

I can remember one member proudly claiming of never looking at a Help file, and another reporting a position of why should take mytime and Google a concern when I come can come to the forum and get the answer from you people.

Oh by the way, if it's reassuring in the least I will be 62 years old this Fall.

Sorry DA, I didn't mean to eliminate you, I have also gleaned info from you as well, and others too, just are hard to get them all in a thank you, but you know who you are.
I too, have been around the block a little was 70 just the other day, and have struggled on my own with this machine for over 10 years, I have learned a lot on the site here, and somehow, don't remember how, it was the first site I got hooked into when I got my machine. I loved the back and forth contacts, and the info, and everyone seemed to be learning from each other, I won't say that I haven't gone to the help section, just that I can't always understand what they are trying to tell me, as the computereze isn't my forte.
Talking is, and means a great deal to me.
