I am so stupid but cannot figure out how to get my printer to print pages in order(1-2) instead of backwords (2-1) which it is doing now. It is an HP PSC 1410 all in one if that makes any difference.I can bring up the page that lets you change settings but just don't know what to change. Thanks.

I also am using a HP ink jet, but a different model. Hopefully, there is enough similarity that you can find your way through your printer menus after reviewing the instructions for my setup.

Here's one way to do it.

When you are ready to print your document,

click on the rpint button as usual. The HP printer panel should appear.

Click on the "properites" button.

Click on "advanced".

Under "document option", find "layout option"
and the layout option should be showing "page order". if not showing, click on its "+" button to expand.

"page order" will be underlined. Clcik on it and a drop down choice list will appear. Change the order and click 'OK" or "accept" whichever your software is using.

Now, backup though the menus and print. The page output of the printer will be reversed from what it had been.

To make a permanent setting, go to the "control panel", click on Printers, then select the installed printer whose settings you wish to change (selection may be by a right button mouse click), drill down through the menus and make the selection. Be sure to click on "ok" or "accept" to accept the change and close the menus. This make a change to the installed settings of the printer and it will remain that way until changed again.

A word about HPs vernacular.

For newer HP printers, printing "back to front" means that the back sheet will be printed first and the front sheet last, thus the stack in the printer's output tray will have the front page on top. "Front to Back" is the opposite.

John, I understand that fear - to a degree. However you currently have a useless drive with data on that you wish to recover. Taking it to a shop will possibly cost as much or more than a new drive. First try using the drive on another computer if possible. Have you considered the possibility that the power supply has failed? If that fails look around the edges, from all the sites I visited I cannot see all around but there might be a snap fit type feature holding the outer casing to the body of this thing. Try prying along the seams with a thin flat blade screwdriver. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I would try recycling (starting and stopping) the print spooler and RPC services if I were you. Open Control Panel and then open Administrative Tools and then Services. The services are in alpha order so find Print Spooler, right click on it and select Stop,,,wait until it's stopped, then right click and select Start. Repeat the step with Remote Procedure Call (RPC). Try again to install the printer, by unplugging the USB from the computer side, restarting Windows and then plugging it back in. If the steps to clear the print spooler don't work, there are some more detailed instructions for doing this through the run line that I can provide if needed.

My hubby is not the geek, I am. He set it up, and it's never worked. After 8 months of not having the full functionality of the 4 in 1, I thought I'd try. The software is installed for the printer. On the Network page in Win8, it shows my laptop, the cpu, but not the printer. If I right clik on the printer( on the Printer page) it shows it's offline and not connected. The printer says it is not connected to the web. It seems to be stuck on "FAX". Due to bad lighting and the cpu and printer being in a cabinet, I can't see where to unplug the printer from cpu. The directions for the printer installation are not straightforward, they change pages. After the page change, I do not get the display that the instructions show I should have on the printer. I was under the impression that the usb cable was not needed with a wi-fi connection. I do not get a wi-fi connection with the usb or without it. When it's light out, and I can see the black cable in a black cabinet bottom, I'll unplug the usb and uninstall the whole thing and start over. Which is what I should have done to start with. Thanks for your help. So nice of you to take time to try to help. Will post back when I'm successful. And I will be, I'm determined.

Cleaning the print heads: 1.In Windows; Click the Start button (or in Vista the Windows icon) at the lower left corner of your screen. 2.Click on Control Panel. Next, choose Printers and Other Hardware, and then View Installed Printers or Fax Printers. 3.When the Printer page opens, right click on your printerÃ¢ÂÂs name, and choose Printing Preferences. 4.For the Pixma MP530, the Printing Preferences has five tabs across the top; choose Maintenance. Again, most printers should have a very similar set of options. 5.The first button is for cleaning the printheads. YouÃ¢ÂÂll have to choose which printheads you want to clean (the Pixma inkjet has five cartridges). The best bet is to choose All Colors.

One of my printers does the same thing and to be honest I just ignored it. After reading your last sentence I shook my head in casual disbelief. So I ferreted around HP and found the below definitions. You were absolutely right. It just sounds odd.

Definitions:

Front to back Prints the last page of the document first, so that the first page of the document is on top of the finished print job.

Back to front Prints the first page of the document first, so that the last page of the document is on top of the finished print job.

I followed your instructions and changed mine to back to front as I am use to reading output as the follow-up pages are being printed.
