Removed it, shook it, put it back... same problem I know this has something to do with the green roller (I guess that's the "drum"). If I had to guess, I'd say that as the paper is going past the roller, some times it gets too much toner (dark line across the page) and some spots get not enough toner (letters are readable, but sometimes very faded). Whichever "defect" is taking place at the time, it goes straight across the page horizontally.

well i assume all that 'crap' i did cleaned the nozzles and aligned the print head. this is pretty much greek to me. you have hit upon a problem that i know is most likely my problem. no, i seldom print anything, like 1 time every month but more likely once every 2 or 3 months. but using this printer since 11/2003 i have done this and just now this problem happens. as i was not having a problem all those years, i figured it was ok to just not using the printer. the document i was having trouble with was a pdf. i copied the text into MS word and thought i would be able to change the text color to say blue. i was not able to do that. so a 2nd question is why? if i could change the color in word i'd be able to print the doc. tom

Have you tried all of these: Unsupported Cartridge Error in DELL printers (29/09/2009 @ 16:39:55) The "Unsupported Cartridge Error" message may be familiar to you if you are an unlucky dell printer owner. This message seems to be quite a common issue and is not confined to remanufactured inkjets but is just as big a problem with original Dell printer cartridges. It seems from looking on various websites and forums that this is a common problem with Dell inkjet printers and especially prevalent in printers such which take the M4640, M4646 and 592 printer cartridges (All In One 922, 924, 944 etc). Here are 3 ways to try and resolve your Dell Unsupported Cartridge error message. 1, Run the printer's clean cartridge printer cartridges function. This should be found within your printer's menu system. You can find a full description on how to do this on your Dell printer manual. You can find them at the Dell printer support website. 2, Clean the contacts on the top and back of the cartridge with filtered water (bottled water is great for this). Always use a lint free cloth so that the contacts will not pick up particles or fluff. 3, Download the latest drivers for your particular Dell printer.
