I am using Thunderbird e-mail program on my new HP Win 7 laptop. But with Verizon cellular broadband which I use, I must have my own e-mail client, since Verizon does not have an e-mail program. I have a couple of gmail accounts and have the mails download to Thunderbird since I dislike having to open a browser to access my e-mails. It is working fine, although I cannot say it is my favorite after using OE for so many years.

Thanks for the info. I was successful in downloading Thunderbird to my old laptop with Windows XP and using the Verizon email account, although it required a little tinkering for incoming mail. Now the challenge will be the new computer with Windows 7.
I looked at the link from Zep516. What is "compatibility Mode"? The link suggests running the program in Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode. Don't have XP on the new computer.

After finally installing the upgrade to Win7 I hate Charter email. I downloaded Thunderbird but so far have been unable to import my email address. I tried clicking on the star to add to address book but nothing happens.
Is there a way to add email address as they come in?

You do have to have the correct info from your ISP email client to enter into thunderbird for it to fetch that mail.

I finally did check into the Verizon Mail site. I do not have verizon.net as my e-mail address, because the Verizon cellular broadband does not have an email server. I have had the gmail accounts for several years, even when I had satellite service, so no reason to change these. But they work perfectly in my Thunderbird program. I hardly ever go to gmail via a browser except to check the junk files, in case a legitimate mail got put there.

I did misunderstand your original question, forgetting that many have verizon.net e-mail accounts via DSL or FIOS.
