The directions that came with my tub are seriously whacked-out so who knows WHAT to use. Since we're on our own with this, so far the only thing we've used is Scrubbling Bubbles. It still looks beautiful after 5 weeks of that.

Actually, it sounds like Toto's customer service was quite helpful when you called, they gave you two specific product names! Bon Ami and Soft Scrub are both extremely mild abrasives (about as abrasive as toothpaste) that won't dull the porcelain enamel surface. By "abrasive cleaners" they are referring to products like Comet or Ajax, which will scratch the living daylights out of that nice smooth porcelain finish. This dulls the surface and the microscopic scratches collect dirt, which leads to a dingy appearance. For routine bathroom cleaning I usually use Oxyclean, which is plenty sufficient for the whole room. The Mr. Clean Magic Erasers also work as well as Bon Ami (wonderful stuff, and very earth friendly) or Soft Scrub (Ecover makes a great nontoxic version) when there's soap scum build-up or a bathtub ring that needs dealing with. Plain old baking soda also makes an excellent extra-mild abrasive that doesn't scratch - make a paste with a little water and apply with a sponge.

Johnmari, when you (and others on this forum have mentioned it too) say to use oxyclean, is this a bathroom cleaning product? The only oxyclean I know of is for laundry. I keep forgetting to look when shopping to see if there are others.

After trying to clean our 50 year old avocado green tub and never ever getting it looking nice, I'm finding the new Toto cast iron just needs a wipe and a spray of water to look gleaming (hurray!), but I'm sure I will eventually need some sort product.

Budge, funny you should ask about OxiClean. I too was wondering....Bill mentioned it for cleaning tile, and I had not seen it anywhere except for laundry. And I looked at Target, Walmart etc. Then last week I went to Bed, Bath & Beyond to get a wedding gift and they had a display of it. I think it was the foam in the link below.

Not sure how to use that to clean tile, as in mopping the floor...unless you just spot-spray any dirty areas?? In any case, I am going to try some.

And if this is not the right thing, someone spreak up! : )

Hey also keep meaning to tell you that we adore our new tub. Not sure if it is just because the old one was sooooooooo bad, but it is definately love with this one. I'm so glad I wasn't talked out of the cast iron.

I use the same Oxyclean powder that comes in buckets for everything. It's sold in the laundry section, bucket looks like this. If you look on the back there's a long list of "suggested uses". I'm not a believer in having to have a dozen different products for each room. The Oxy is great because it's effective and very low toxicity. You can mix it in a spray bottle and spray it on (although it only lasts about a week, so use one of the 8 or 12 ounce bottles), you can mix in a bucket or a sink and wipe/scrub/mop it on, you can add it in solutions for hot water carpet cleaners (the domestic kind) or steam cleaning machines. Since cleaning tile was specifically asked, to wash tile floors I put a gallon or so of very hot water in the mopping bucket and dissolve the appropriate dose of Oxyclean into it. I wash the floor without making it overwhelmingly wet, wait a bit for any chemistry 101 "hoodoo" to happens, and mop again quickly with clean water.

Hey thanks johnmari! I've been impressed with Oxi, since I used a carpet spot cleaner (Woolite) that had it. That foam spray looks easy, so I will probably try that. Thanks again for help w/ cleaning tile. : )
