What to use instead of towel rings?

We will use nice large towel bars next to the shower and the bathtub. However, we need something smaller for the vanity. It has 2 sinks with walls on either side. Before the renovation there were towel rings placed on the walls next to the sinks. But I really don't like rings, find them awkward to use. What can you use instead? Do hooks really work for smaller towels? Can you get towel bars that are less than 10"? Or what else could we do?

I don't know your style, but the brand of towel hooks and tp holders that I got has 8" towel bars to match. I imagine other brands do so as well.

We use the same type of hook as we have for the bath towels, and it works just fine. One of the reasons why we use hooks is that DH is rather halfarsed about putting his towel back neatly on a towel bar, and the list of reasons why I don't like towel rings is rather long. ;-)

If the bar to the towel bar you've chosen is "loose" in the brackets (as opposed to screwing together, or all of one piece) you can cut it down with a hacksaw to the desired length. I have also heard of people using toilet paper holders, either the Euro kind where the paper slips onto a C-shaped bar or the conventional sort with a solid bar (pipe or painted dowel) inserted where the spring-loaded roller would be.

Ginger makes rings that are a sort of hybrid ring/bar. The one below is from the "Surface" line, but I think something similar is available in a couple of their other lines too. You've already thought of the moisture problems with it hanging on a hook. I chose to use a toilet paper bar for mine. Sounds weird, I know. This is one of those bars that connects at only one point on the wall. A roll of toilet paper is meant to be slid onto the holder sideways. I like how it holds the towel evenly, instead of scrunched up like a ring would do. I can't say that I've ever really seen hooks used for towels much, but it sounds like it wouldn't stick out.

Drawer pull instead of hand towel ring

I did this in the guest/kids bath when we remodeled a couple years ago. I have a double sink vanity in there and the drawer pulls are the traditional bar pulls. I have two 9" pull outs( similar to a bottle/spice pull out in a kitchen) that I keep shampoos lotions etc. in. Mounted at the top I put 8 3/4" bar pulls at the top. The spread between screw holes is about 6 1/2". It is perfect to put a handtowel on and works great right next to the sink. The great thing is that since it is a pull out-the towel doesn't interfere with any other drawers underneath opening and getting shut. I hope that makes sense. I would post pics, but not sure how.

Anyone use hooks for bath towels instead of bars?

We are planning to use hooks in our new home. I'm thinking of either bear hooks - one of our bathrooms is going to be "barely a bathroom" or wooden pegs. They will be big enough to easily hold a bath towel...Our other bathroom will have an outhouse/forest theme, so hooks/pegs related to that will work..and in an "outhouse", pegs will be very appropriate. Casual. We are building a log home, so the more casual hooks will work well for us. Besides, it seems like no matter how much time I spend hanging towels on bars, they always look a bit untidy. At least hanging them on pegs - they always like they are supposed to be casual.. I hope everything dries well...it's just my dh and me, so we don't have a lot of wet towels. But I hope this peg thing will work. He likes the idea, though!

You can cut many towel bars to the correct size. That's what we did, because for some odd reason,I cannot stand towel rings.
