lack of use stopped my computer in 5 minutes- I was using it!

A box popped up- saying my computer would shut down in 5 minutes dur to lack of use. Did I want to extend the time? I was actually on the computer for quite awhile when this happened- what's up??

are you on dial-up? it sounds like your ISP is trying to cut you off, so not your actual computer shutting off but your internet connection shutting off. Dial-up used to do that all the time, I have not had dial up in so many years I don't know if it still does that or not, there were settings to change it so that it would not do that.
give us some info on what type of connection you have and what windows version you are using and what browser?

No- I have satellite, I was using windows xp, internet explorer. This has never happened before. Need anything more- I am not sure of 'which is which', as far as version/browser.

Sorry about the delay - tried to get one last camping trip out before 'w'-word decides to settle in for 6 months. Here's what I've done so far (that didn't cost me money) :) - replaced oil (it was all dark, so now it's got fresh oil in there) - cleaned out the jets on the brass bolt. They looked clean, but I used the wire from a wire-tie and poked it through all of the holes (x3). - I checked the spark plug - before, the spark is nice and defined. - I went to the local 'hospital' here in town, and they suggested reseating the coil, so I removed it - cleaned off whatever gunk I could find (grass, bugs, etc) on the coil, and put it back on. Ensured that the rotor was able to rotate w/o hitting the coil, and let her run for a few minutes until manually stopping it. It seemed to be burning a lot of oil Tried to start it up immediately after, and it won't start. I checked for a spark again, and nothing this time around. So...should I try to do the above (I should have reread what was noted by lbgold94 re:cleaning the frame, etc, not just the coil)? Or should I go ahead and get a replacement? (it's 53$ here in Canada - I'm sure I could find it online cheaper, but with shipping probably comes to the same). Once it "cools" down again (45 minutes) I'll go back out and try cleaning the frame where the coil mounts and see if that helps any. Also, how dry should the plug be? I noticed that it had some oil near the gap side, but not enough to short the gap out, at least, I don't think it was shorted - I guess I could test that with an ohmmeter. Thanks again for all the help thus far - I'm definitely learning a lot :)

What you want now is a cover crop that will grow some in cool weather, stay in place over the winter and grow a bit more next spring, something that will help hold your soil in place during the winter. That means knowing a bit about which cover crops will do that. Oats are seeded in the spring to grow during the summer, they need warm weather and are killed by frost. Buckwheat is the same. Wheat maybe, depending on which wheat seed you get. Many of the wheats have been genetically modified and may not be something you would want, and that seed is fairly expensive which is why that is seldom listed on Cover Crop lists. Most clovers prefer to be spring seeded so the have time to get established before winter sets in. Fava beans, and Austrian Peas, like to grow in cooler weather, but are killed by really cold weather so only dead plants would be left on the soil during the winter. Winter, Field, Cereal Rye, "Secale cereale", is one grain that germinates well in cooler soils, grows 4 to 6 inches tall, and then stops growing until the soil warms up. This helps hold your soil in place if snow cover is insufficient to keep surface soil from blowing, eroding, away. This is one of the few grains, or cover crops, that will stay alive, along with Winter Wheat, and will actually provide cover, the reason you plant a cover crop, for your soil.

I followed the link teresa posted & mixed up a batch of master recipe on Wednesday evening. I baked my first loaf of artisan bread tonight. After if came out of the oven I almost broke my arm patting myself on the back. Never ever would I have thought it would turn out so good. I preheated my oven to 500. Once it reached 500 I then turned it back to 450. I have an old oval shaped clay baker (it has seldom been used) that I put in my oven along with the lid. Set my timer for 45 minutes then proceded to prep the dough. There was no work to it at all. Just like the video I was able to cut a chunk off and shape it with a little more flour in less than a minute. I threw it on a silpat sheet sprinkled with cornmeal to rise. 45 minutes later I put a couple of slits in it then into my baker it went. I added the lid and set my timer for another 30 minutes. I didn't know if I should remove the lid half way thru or not. As a matter of fact I didn't even think about removing the lid till about 5 minutes befor the timer was to go off. I did remove it at that time and was amazed at how great the bread looked. Five minutes later I pulled it from the oven. I was telling myself to let it cool down befor I cut into it. Bread should not be cut while its hot. Right? Heck I don't know. I have no willpower!! Oh my I was in shock. I still can't believe I produced such a beautiful tasty loaf of artsian bread. Thank you teresa for the link to the recipe. Now that I have tried it and it worked I will buy the book ASAP. I can not wait to try some of the other recipes. The pecan rolls are calling my name, my very own home made english muffins and pitas! I want to make a marble rye worthy of Jerry Seinfield! hex2006- Just 4 times a day? Is that the practice? I've heard about switching on/off every 15/30 mins and that sounded somewhat less than optimal to me... If you flood the roots for 15 mins, wouldn't that be too much for many plants? Conversely, leaving it to dry for 6 hours, isn't that detrimental or at least stressful for many varieties (and even if there is enough moisture, does the plants have enough access to nutrients)? Jeremiah- Yeah, the power consumption was high on my priorities when I considered hydroponics. It's not like I'm gonna sell the produce but I am in a dire lack of excess money to burn- that's why the pump power consumption actually did seemed important to me (unless I'm growing weed then that is a whole different matter). I calculated that if a simple 10W pump ran for 24/7, 365 days, it would amount to 87.6KW. I pay 20c for KW/h, so a yearly cost would be around 17.52$. The price of tomatoes at my local market is a little more than 1$ per kg. That means that simply to cover the usage cost of this one pump I need to grow more than 15kg. You can see why I'm not a fan of letting the pump work more than it needs to. Lol, I missed your meaning, when you said "making the box water tight " ,did you mean the timer box or the grow box? because in both cases I just use a discarded bucket/cereal box with some water proof glue on the lid. Very annoying. , , , The second scenario you described is actually pretty nifty, but I fail to see the advantage if indeed rapid switching will burn out the pump. My case however is the common first scenario (mostly because of space constrictions (the sun is at the top)). I don't know if it is that 'rapid', but if the pump fills the bucket in 4 minutes (and turned off due to power conservation) and the drying occurs for another 11 mins- then we are talking about 90 cycles per day (I have no idea if that is a good growing practice, but speaking hypothetically). I took your warnings about the quick burnout to heart, but I'm not sure what's the alternative in an ebb-flow system (other than cycling it to 2 operations per hour). One thing I thought of changing is the placement of the pump. according to Kleeems explanation ,a partial cause for the failing is the column of water already present in the pipes, overloading at each start up. Seems like it can be solved by placing the pump in an upside fashion near the top... thanks guys.

If this comes up again, can you give us the exact wording of the message that you got? If you can also tell us exactly what you were doing at the time it might help.

If it's telling you the connection will shut down, it's entirely possible that even though you were "doing something" at the time, if you had been reading a news article or something, although you were doing something from your perspective, you weren't doing anything from the standpoint of the internet connection. When you view a web page, you download the page and the connection closes. It doesn't open again until you click a link, send an email, etc.

One thing you can do to keep the connection alive is to set your email program to check for new mail more often. Each time it checks, that's activity and resets the time.

I wonder what you power settings are in Control Panel.
Check and see, they may be set for turn off monitor, harddrive etc in 10 mins. Reset these to 30 mins or even never

The last time I ever bothered to read about satellite internet I thought it said you can only download from it but uploaded via dialup. If this is still the case perhaps that is why the message is generated.

This is definitely not a ISP issue, it is impossible for them to turn off your computer. Maybe you have an adware or virus?

That's part of why I'd like to see the exact wording of the message. I suspect that the message did not say the computer was going to be turned off but that the conenction was going to be ended and it was misinterpreted.

Think its probably the way the reboot message is configured for autoUpdate. I see that sometimes.

All of you- Thanks- I don't remember exactly what I was doing, but I THINK I was actually 'clicking on stuff', but maybe I was reading. It was the first time that it has ever come up, and I have read longer times before.... I will write the exact wording down if it ever happens again. I am not set to sleep until muchlonger. I'll try to look- I go to start/control panel to look, correct?
I get scanned everyday, but maybe 'something' was there.

Owbist, that is no longer the case with satellite Internet. It is two way just like any other ISP.
