No I don't think a System Restore is valid in that problem. What I would do is open the tools menu in the Firefox browser and clear history. Then I would run ccleaner and or do a disk clean up from within windows. Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools, now chose disk clean up. Run it. Reboot Try connection.

If that fails unplug Modem from wall for 30 seconds, and also the router if you have one. Now replug the modem in wait for modem lights to come up 20 seconds. Then connect router and see if you can connect.

If no success click Start>Programs. Now look for the Firefox Icon hold mouse over it. Choose Firefox Safe Mode, not to be confused with Windows safe Mode, Firefox has its own. Once in Firefox Safe Mode try to connect, this is not a solution if it works in safe mode that's telling you an add-on is responsible for the problem and you would need to determine which one...by process of illumination.

I did the router/modem thing yesterday during the outage, but didn't do it after service just came back up.

I'm well versed by the ISP tech guys about unplugging the modem, and then trooping down the the basement and unplugging what they call the radio, and then the wait times before plugging the radio back in and then another wait and plugging in the router. Because of the having to do that so much early on, I finally made my modem plug-in easily accessible so I didn't have to pull things out and stand on my head with a flashlight to get to it.

I can never find the Flashlight when I need it. When I do I only discover that I should have bought those batteries when I saw them!

Some time back I ordered a bulk lot of flashlights like at the link below. I think including shipping they were less than $4 a piece. I got plenty to share with a lot of little people as well as some adult friends. Have you ever seen a kid that didn't just love to play with a flashlight?

The light is bright enough and certainly lasts a lot longer than one can stand on their head peering behind a tower. The LED light is so bright though that is it annoying, as I found out at a campground one dark night when little ones were enjoying their new flashlights.

As promised, I'm back with an update.

It is now working! but I'm not sure what really fixed it, or if it maybe just fixed itself. I know what I did and what order, thus what didn't fix it.

I did the router/modem unplug/wait thing and rebooted...no help.
CCleaner-no help
disc clean-up via accessories-no help
reboot-no help
updated and did full scans using Super-antispyware, and Spybot Search and Destroy, and Malwarebites Anti-Malware

Nothing of any significance was found via the scans and after checking for updates and running that many scans I couldn't say for sure if I rebooted between each one or not. I just know it took a long time.

I ran the Malwarebytes last and only cookies were found and I discovered the Hotmail started working during the scan.

I'm now a happy camper but have a new question for a new thread.

Anyway, with Firefox open I went to
Tools>Options and Main comes up.

I have always had it set to When Firefox starts-Show a blank page Yesterday I noticed there was a URL in the homepage box. I deleted that URL out of the homepage box. I think that was late in the game of all the updating and scans. Could that have maybe had anything to do with it? Whenever I was opening FF it was just coming up with a white screen just as it always had.

Well good for you Zep, but after you find the flashlight and later when those batteries get all used up, you're gonna be wishin you had one of those handy dandy wind-up ones on hand. You'll not catch me in the dark without a flashlight.

Bought famous drugstore batteries on sale once,, Walgreen's. Change batteries in wall clocks a year later and all had leaked. Looked in my digicams, same deal.. I think everywhere those Walgreen alkaline's were used .. had had to be cleaned up of corrosion and icky stuff.
