On Monday when you go back,

If you've already got it running, but still no connections detected, try reinstalling the network adapter, as follows....

Right click on My Computer, Properties, Hardware and select Device Manager. Look down the list for Network Adapters and open the entry by clicking on the + sign. Right click on the installed adapter - probably Broadcom, and select Uninstall. Reboot and Windows should detect it and reinstall.

you can see in your picture where on the green bars for strength of the library signal there is a yellow triangle and exclamation point you mention that is what you would need to see what that warning is, did you try double clicking or right clicking right on that connection to see if it gives you more detailed information?

Hedgehogs is some other wireless router in the same area as the library that is their network you are seeing, if it does not say secured then it is probably also a public wifi is there a restaurant in that area with that name? If it is secured it is probably someone's home network.
When mine comes up like that I see mine and 4 of my neighbors network names all of which are secured networks and can not be accessed with out use of the passkey. Which is why I always suggest using a name for your network that is not easily identifiable as you, my neighbor on one side uses his name so I know it is his, one of my other neighbors is Pandora's box I have no idea who it is for.

The slider on the front is how you turn your wireless access on and off so anytime you are trying wireless you have to have that turned on.

If you are on the library open public access then yes it is possible for someone in a car near you to possibly be able to access your computer that is a known problem at public hotspots. Hotmail now for example offers a one time use password for their email for people having to use hotspots so that if they grab that password it will not work for them it will only work one time, they send it to you via cellphone each time you need one. When at home on your secure network you use your regular password.

If you find yourself still having issues after reinstalling the adapter at the Library on Monday.

Always use the next choice. That's to boot the computer to Safe Mode with / Networking. Then try a connection to www.Google.com. Don't surf the Internet in this mode. If you can connect in this mode that tells us if a program is causing an issue such as a Firewall or Anti Virus.

Restart the computer, keep tapping the F8 Key, wait for the Windows Advanced options Menu to appear. Using the arrow keys, select Safe Mode w/Networking. Then just see if you can establish a connection with www.Google.com

My goodness, I see it says LAN module. Is that the problem?
What does that mean?

The device manager shows the N62OO installed, wireless adapter. That's a stand alone card. Also in the device manager the top one is what's built in Gigabyte Ethernet NDIS (6.20) Used for connection with a cable from Modem or router.

Anyway there should be no problem connecting a Windows machine in the Library or anywhere else, no matter what adapter is installed. If you see someone in there ask for them help.

I think the trick was-----I had to read the library's rules!
At the end when I scrolled down----It said to continue on to the Internet which I clicked and WALLA I am on.
What a huge relief. AND fun fun.

I had a feeling it was something like that, remember back when I told you a long while back about using hotspost and having to follow their methods and in some places having to get an access code or password? Always make sure you do that for each hotspot. Now you know the way to do it for the library! Awesome work.
