No wireless connect

Last Friday when I went to use my laptop, I dialed up OK but I couldn't open anything. Can't find server. Yellow triangle with exclamation mark was on my Internet Icon on the tray. When I hovered over it, it said No network access.

First thing I thought was the modem.

It dialed up ok and got on but no page found thing.

So----I was forced to finally go and try out the wireless feature on this thing.

Called the town library for info needed and went there to use wireless and same thing, no network access.

This is what was.

What didn't I do to be able to use the wireless?

There is a slider switch on the front that I slid for wireless. Then the box you see here is what I brought up to click on the Library?

A fellow was sitting across from me using his laptop. Could hedgehog be him? Made me feel uneasy to where I wondered if he could see me on his computer?

I then came home to my desktop and dialed up fine but the same thing----can not find server. I called my ISP to find they were at fault and are working to fix the problem BUT why couldn't I get on "wirelessly"?

Did my dialup interfere with that?

The library is closed Sat. & Sun. so will see about going there Monday.

On Monday when you go back,

If you've already got it running, but still no connections detected, try reinstalling the network adapter, as follows....

Right click on My Computer, Properties, Hardware and select Device Manager. Look down the list for Network Adapters and open the entry by clicking on the + sign. Right click on the installed adapter - probably Broadcom, and select Uninstall. Reboot and Windows should detect it and reinstall.

you can see in your picture where on the green bars for strength of the library signal there is a yellow triangle and exclamation point you mention that is what you would need to see what that warning is, did you try double clicking or right clicking right on that connection to see if it gives you more detailed information?

Hedgehogs is some other wireless router in the same area as the library that is their network you are seeing, if it does not say secured then it is probably also a public wifi is there a restaurant in that area with that name? If it is secured it is probably someone's home network.
When mine comes up like that I see mine and 4 of my neighbors network names all of which are secured networks and can not be accessed with out use of the passkey. Which is why I always suggest using a name for your network that is not easily identifiable as you, my neighbor on one side uses his name so I know it is his, one of my other neighbors is Pandora's box I have no idea who it is for.

The slider on the front is how you turn your wireless access on and off so anytime you are trying wireless you have to have that turned on.

If you are on the library open public access then yes it is possible for someone in a car near you to possibly be able to access your computer that is a known problem at public hotspots. Hotmail now for example offers a one time use password for their email for people having to use hotspots so that if they grab that password it will not work for them it will only work one time, they send it to you via cellphone each time you need one. When at home on your secure network you use your regular password.

"I don't think someone would be on the phone 3 to 4 hours almost every night" You must not have a teenage daughter. :) The phone interference would be most likely if it's in your house since you're not in an apartment. I don't know why you're dropping the connection every night. Is there any other electronic equipment that gets turned on at your house during that time? Maybe something else is sending off signals that interfere. Have you tried resetting the router when that happens? Turn it off, let it sit for a minute and turn it back on to see if that helps. If you're on a 1 acre lot, I'm surprised that you're seeing your neighbors' connections. To secure your connection, you'd need to go into the router setup and the wireless setup on your computer and set them both to use WPA (or WEP if that is all that is supported). The router should have instructions on how to do this. If not, post here and somebody can help.

I disabled the firewall. I also found a previous thread that described essentially the same problem. However, it was finally solved by installing Vista updates. Right now, I have no way of getting on-line. I also ran a Network diagnostic that says: "This computer has the following default gateway entry 0.0.0.0" "There is no default gateway entry" "Redirecting user to support call" Is there anyway to get updates without being connected? Hotspots tend to be a bit of a crap shoot. It's a function of the number of users sharing the connection, hardware the hotspot is using, and the hotspot's Internet connection speed. So connection speeds can vary widely.

Which one do I click to uninstall? The Miniport?
Not knowing what I am doing, can I screw up my computer?

If you find yourself still having issues after reinstalling the adapter at the Library on Monday.

Always use the next choice. That's to boot the computer to Safe Mode with / Networking. Then try a connection to www.Google.com. Don't surf the Internet in this mode. If you can connect in this mode that tells us if a program is causing an issue such as a Firewall or Anti Virus.

Restart the computer, keep tapping the F8 Key, wait for the Windows Advanced options Menu to appear. Using the arrow keys, select Safe Mode w/Networking. Then just see if you can establish a connection with www.Google.com

Funny thing, I customized to have that N6200 put in when I ordered my laptop reading it was supposed to be better than the top one you see here.

My goodness, I see it says LAN module. Is that the problem?
What does that mean?

The device manager shows the N62OO installed, wireless adapter. That's a stand alone card. Also in the device manager the top one is what's built in Gigabyte Ethernet NDIS (6.20) Used for connection with a cable from Modem or router.

Anyway there should be no problem connecting a Windows machine in the Library or anywhere else, no matter what adapter is installed. If you see someone in there ask for them help.

WHAT A RELIEF!!!!!

I am at the library and AM ON!
I think the trick was-----I had to read the library's rules!
At the end when I scrolled down----It said to continue on to the Internet which I clicked and WALLA I am on.
What a huge relief. AND fun fun.

PS, I am sitting in the children's area. Nice airconditioning. I was told I could use this part. It is out of the way with just a few kids roaming around.
Now my dream is fulfilled completely with my new toy I waited 4 years for. YIPPEE!

I had a feeling it was something like that, remember back when I told you a long while back about using hotspost and having to follow their methods and in some places having to get an access code or password? Always make sure you do that for each hotspot. Now you know the way to do it for the library! Awesome work.

"LOL" Really want to know what went through my head while I was there?
I was thinking I have to get a car battery!"lol"

I will go for downloads and updates.
Have the fear of hackers etc. so time won't be all that much.
