Thanks for all the considerations! I have made careful measurements, including when the top of the printer is "open" to have proper clearances all around, I took note of the on/off switch (it's in the front). I will probably do a simple flat rollout on a shelf in the pantry. The pantry is centrally located on the main floor at the perimeter of the kitchen so I think very convenient for anyone printing for homework or anything else. Since I'm sure our home will outlast our printer I'll probably try to make the shelf a little larger than I think I need to accommodate a future printer of different dimensions, although I think if needed I'd be able to find one to fit a certain space restriction since I'll never want an oversized printer for simple household printer functions.

In the past two years I've purchased two All in One laser models, one Canon and one Brother. They've both been excellent and indistinguishable in quality and performance as far as I'm concerned. The same features - scanning, copying, and printing. There are some that will also send and receive faxes if that's of interest for you. Both purchased (at different times) from Office Max/Office Depot. One was about $125, the other $150. Good printing speed, very light use of toner (and pretty inexpensive to replace the cassettes), high quality images, easy to use after setup.

I would unplug the printers, disconnect/detach/remove/delete (whatever term fits) each printer's software/driver/default setting from each PC, reboot both PCs and then reconnect each printer in turn to each as if doing so for the first time. Both PCs should have plug and play and automatic driver downloads so it may pay to try a fresh start. Nothing to lose, no damage done, see what happens.

Did you try unplugging it and plugging it back in to reset it yet? FWIW, my printer's dialog always shows it's offline and it works anyway, so I just ignore it. Disable can mean just clicking the item in the list to uncheck it.
