Printer HP Deskjet 940c, color ink issue, can u help?

Hey Folks:

I'm using a gifted HP deskjet 940c printer. It has been fine except for the occassional glitch, like now.

I just had to change the color in cartridge, and now no color is coming out. I did change the cartridge correctly and removed any saftey strips. What I can't figure out is how to run an jet head cleaning run on this thing.

My other printer (I've forgotten what it was) had a button you just pushed for 3 seconds and the heads would clean. I can't find a way to do it on this one...

I do have the printer set to print color. That has been checked.

Any other "idiot" suggestions (except buy a new printer..., please, lol)

I'm teaching a class tomorrow night, and have a LOT of materials that need to be printed out!!!

Try this, it is how I can get at my HP printer service panel.

Click File at the top left, then Print.... On my HP I now can click Properties, do so if you can and then click the far right tab for "Services" and click that. Might need to do that more than once.

Failing that use the same sequence to get in but after clicking on Properties adjust the print quality to a higher standard to see if you can get it to print.

I can get in there, but there are no services buttons. I can adjust quality, but the color is still not printing. DH is going to see if another print cartridge, maybe the one we have is just faulty. I can hear ink in it, and I can get a bit out, but no printing!

Maybe it's a problem with the website that keeps you from printing it. Or you may need to install new printer drivers (available at hp.com). I just use the "Snipping Tool" to highlight what I want. That way, I can save the selection to my computer or paste it in Word to print it. The Snipping Tool on Vista is great, but if you have XP, you can download a free snipping tool. I only discovered this wonderful tool recently, and I think it's one of the coolest features yet!

When printing directly from an email you should use the print option directly in the email, not from the top file print option. You might tell what email client you use some one can tell you where the option is in the email. Have you tried printing something else like a document on your computer. It sounds like you need to run an updated scan with malwarebytes to check for malware causing your problems. You do have the laptop on a solid hard surface right because it has to have lots of ventilation under it. Heat build up can cause similar problems. If you don't have malwarebytes you can get it here, look where it says download now at bleeping computer. Install, update, run full scan allow to clean what it finds. A shot in the dark here. It's an old HP fix-it. Shut down your system. Disconnect printer from system. Unplug printer from the wall for sixty seconds. (If it is plugged into a surge suppressor/power strip unplug it from the strip.) Reconnect printer to system. Plug printer back in directly to wall. Turn on printer and let it configure. Boot up system. Cross fingers. Print. The thought process is some HP transformers are fussy and don't like an unstable electrical supply; particularly through power strips/surge suppressors (two different things in actuality) In their fuss they can drop settings, handshakes and configurations. I had an expensive HP portable printer, stand alone, no copier/scanner. I don't remember the model. It was a great printer, and I had/have a flat bed scanner, so didn't need the other anyway. It worked great. I used the Costco refills once. Worked fine. The next time the printer wouldn't work. I bought new HP cartridges. Didn't work. Bought new HP cartridges. Worked fine. Next time I bought new HP cartridges, the printer never worked again. This printer was over $200, and only available at Staples. I loved it. Didn't buy a new one. I bought a cheap all in one from Walmart for about $70 that had wireless printing capabilities. No more refills for me. Having said that DDIL uses refill all the time, something about continuous refill? From Amazon. If anyone wants more information on that, let me know and I will find out.

I would take the cartridge out and double check for safety strips, reinstall the cartridge making sure it is fitting in perfectly.
If it still doesn't work, I'd say the cartridge is faulty, dried up or expired.
An HP 940c is a good printer, you're only a few models ahead of me. I've switched to buying generic cartridges now because of the expense of HP originals.

Well, it wasn't necessarily the cartridge. After many repeated paper jams, the thing died. STINKERS, I'm only half way thru the job. Now I have to pay to get the rest printed somewhere and then buy a new printer.
DH ran out and luckily got the the ink store right before they were locking the door! So a new ink, no printer. What luck :(
Thank goodness we have a little independant print shop right around the corner. I can run over tomorrow AM and print it out myself.
Still, the entire venture has eaten all the profits of the job.

you maybe have a bad cartridge or a bad print head. you must clean thoroughly the rollers of your hp printer ink.

I am having the same issue. I checked my printers print head,rollers and did some test.. It did not fixed the problem.. I did reinstalled my printer ink cartridges but it did not helped either..
