it will be tall but you might consider a vessel sink that sits in the counter a few inches. You might pick up one at HD and sit it on the counter to see if you like it. You can take it back after.. (that's how we decided its a bit too tall for our liking)

The sink will be a standard oval undermount (white) on granite. I will not have any "sit down space". The cabinets are standard height (not extra high) since I'm short. I've ordered these lovely sconces on line (Ovation by Tech Design). They are "funky" but have the brushed nickel with what they call Tahoe Pine Amber glass. With such a large space, I'm wondering more abut the dimensions of the mirror. Is the 15 x 35 size working well? I was wondering how something like a 26 x 40 would look? I'd also like it to be a framed mirror... Suggestions?

Thanks so much to all! I love coming back with this kind of info when I've been discouraged from trying something out of the ordinary. Seems like too many in this building industry would prefer you just stick to the "standard" and not ask for anything atypical that would require a little extra effort or research. They all know by now to expect me to say, "I read on the gardenweb..." Thanks again for all the advice, and warnings. I can always replace the top with something else if it doesn't work.

Wait a minute...Everyone is talking about vessel sinks. You do NOT have a vessel sink, you have a semi-recessed sink. They had a 2.5" hole in their countertops for their drain, and that is all the sink took. Yours takes a big hole. Half of your sink is below the counter top. Unfortunately, the diagram does not indicate what the size of the sink is at the point where the sink goes under. It gives you the dimensions of the sink at the rim. This is meaningless. The limitation you will have with this sink is how far from the edge of the counter top you can cut the sink hole. If you are using wood with a laminate surface, you can get maybe as little as an inch to and inch and a half. If you want stone or quartz you are going to be told by the fabricator that you have to have 3" between the edges and the hole. Front and back. So, for your 16" counter, that means that the hole cannot be more than 10" front to back. Different fabricators are going to tell you different numbers, though, so don't take my 3" as gospel. Call your store and ask. Your sink is no different than putting in a small undermount sink. Get more specs on it and find out the dimensions of the hole that has to be cut for it. Download installation instructions. That is where you should find this info. I am also limited to a 16" counter and I may need the sink to work as a wheelchair accessible sink someday. Meanwhile, I want it to be comfortable for my arthritic body that cannot bend in the morning. I have been planning my bathroom for four years and it is going to start construction on Monday. I have looked at every sink online from every company I could find. I ended up with a sink that protrudes out in front of my counter but otherwise sits just above the counter. I could not get the local fabricator to talk to me, so I don't know if I will have a 4" piece seamed in behind my sink, or if they will attempt to do my counter in one piece. It will be 16" deep and 65" long, and the sink takes up a 23 x 12" chunk of counter space. So that little 4" by 23" piece behind the sink may be seamed in, holding two other pieces together. I am designing the vanity and had narrowed it down to four possible sinks. I had questions about how close to the edge cuts or holes could be cut and if pieces could be seamed in like I described above. I could not design the vanity without a couple of answers. So I typed up a sheet for each of four sinks, using diagrams like yours above. I asked one or two detailed and specific questions about using each sink in a narrow vanity. The stone store sent my four sheets to the fabricators, so I could find out what my options are and decide which sink to use. Their answer? "$2850." Not one answer to a single question I had asked. So I bought the most foolproof sink I could. My contractor, who is building the vanity, starts Monday. I learned a couple of weeks ago that the fabricator that gave me no answers was fired by Cambria. A local stone guy told me they do this periodically "to keep the prices up by allowing only one fabricator in each area." Luckily, my contractor uses a supplier who gets their Cambria from a distant fabricator. I am going to have to let him work it out. We will do the vanity design together and he will figure out how the sink and counter work.
