double sink in a small space
Comments (10)Thanks for suggestions so far. Yes, I'll try to sit down and show our layout. It's a little late in the game on my part because cabinets are already being made and corner lazy susan already committed to to left of sink. We really didn't want to loose that storage space. Had kind of given up on double sink, but then in using one again in a cheap apartment we rented, again realize how much I like the convenience of a second sink. The smart divide sink looks cool. I'll have to look to see if any for a 30 or 27 inch cabinet because the ones shown are for 33. I know many of you would never do this, but the other option is to switch to an 18" dishwasher from a 24" and we'd have th space for 33" cabinet and definitely a big enough double sink. this 1918 house was obviously not built to hold a dishwasher and in some ways it would work better for me to fill an 18 each day rather than the 24 in a day and a half. We seem to have a lot of pots, plasticware and mugs w/painting that are not suggested for dishwasher that end up piling around the sink. Obviously, we are not the world's greatest at clean-up as others don't seem to have this problem. And, maybe a high end dishwasher would wash dirtier pots and plastics better so I wouldn't have so much for the sink? Other than some unexpected circumstance, we will definitely be in this house for 10 more years til kids have graduated, and then, who knows, could be here for life, or ? So, anyway, I'm not too worried about whether the next owner hates at smaller dishwasher. But, maybe too drastic?...See MorePls help - Franke Sink - am I wasting my money?
Comments (13)I have two large 30" stainless sinks in my kitchen. One is a Franke sink with a half "shelf" ledge. The "shelf" is the reason I bought it. The "shelf" is a joke, because the ledge is very small and sloped, so if anything of any substantial weight is placed on the shelf, it crashes down into the sink! The other is a relatively CHEAP sink by Ticor, bought for just over $200 from Galaxy Tool Supply. It is 16 gauge SS, is equally as sound-dampening as the Franke even with garbage disposal running and looks just as nice. You'd never think twice about my two sinks when using them. It's not a bit noticeable that one cost hundreds less than the other! Bottom line - After living with both sinks for over 2 years, I wish I had skipped the Franke sink and gone with two Ticors and saved hundreds of dollars! In fact, the Ticor sink is the one used most, since it is next to my stove and because there is no shelf in it, it is the easier sink to use for hand washing large items. Comments (12)I like Marcolo's idea of switching the closet and adding the cubbies! Here's that option, but I kept a small table for crafts, snacks, breakfast, etc. You said you like to watch the kids out that window, but a setee would look very nice, too. While an island is very nice (and popular) I thought I'd leave the wall (perhaps load bearing?) and make the kitchen easily accessible from both tables. And you still have a little more 'formal' feel in the big dining room. By having the French doors opening into the kitchen, you have the option of closing off the noise...but still seeing the main sink (maybe farmhouse?) and possible 'buffet area' opposite the French doors. I added the extra sink by the fridge, so you have one sink/prep area to the left of the range and another baking area on the right. The dishwasher could go by either sink (or both) but if you have one opposite the French doors, cabinet front or drawer dishwasher might be a nice option. Hope this helps and have fun with your planning :) From Kitchen plans...See MoreWasted space in my Laundry room makes me crazy!
Comments (25)Glad you were able to recreate your space. One thought on that "dead" overhead cabinet: If you drilled a 6" hole in the front of the cabinet below the rod -- halfway between the rod and the bottom of the cabinet -- that could be a great space to store used grocery bags you are saving to recycle as trash bags. You could even make that hole the center of a flower by painting petals around it -- perhaps a daisy or sunflower. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/266486502930394790/...See Moremonicakm_gw
