Ink Cartridges - HP and Canon

We bought a Canon Pixma 500 printer which I really love, but the cartridges are around $15 each. We looked at HP printers yesterday and the cartridges are $10 each. These HP printers use the 02 Vivera inks, the small cartridges. Does anyone have a printer that uses these cartridges? Since these cartridges are so small, Hubby is thinking the ink is not going to last long at all.

Here's the catch. The ink tanks for our Canon cartridges holds 13 ml which are the CLI series. DH said the HP 02 Vivera cartridges only hold 5. something ml.

To get the entire set, it's around $65.00 for my Canon. There are five cartridges, two of them are black. The HP 02 Vivera set is only $35.00 and you get free 100 4x6 photo paper. When you are talking about buying multiple cartridges, this seems like a huge savings, but is it really since the HP ones are so small?

Anyone know of an ink company that sells the genuine Canon cartridges at a discount price?

Try Print Pal, I've used others and have been happy with cartridges. But I save the most by buying "bulk ink" and refilling cartridges two or three times before replacing.

If you're doing only photo, you can do the self service at places like Walmart for under 30 cents each, don't remember the exact number. Your numbers about say 35 Cents just for ink with the Vivera set, maybe more with the Canon. To this you have to add the cost of the paper, what another 50 cents per picture?

Of course you save on the gas if printing your own actually saves a trip.

My Lexmark X8300 series AIO printer has smaller, lower cost cartridges than most other Lexmarks, I like that because the print head is in the cartridge and when it wears out (from refills) it cost less to get a new set of print heads.

I have a HP Photosmart printer that used the Vivera cartriages.I buy the kit you mention that comes with the 100 4x8 photo paper.The black cartiage is much bigger then the color ones.

I have never had a Cannon as you mention.But I am satisfied with the amount of pictures we yield from a set of color cartriages.Much better then my old HP that had the all in one set up.The 100 sheets of paper is the way to go also.

I have found that this problem occurs because the carriage is in the wrong place. Use the following steps. Turn off the printer. open the door. If the carriage holding the cartridges does not rest at the proper place Ie where you can get the cartridges out then slide the cartridges to the correct place. A tip to save ink: I print in "Fast Draft" mode rather than "Normal"--it uses much less ink, and the minor decrease in print quality doesn't bother me. If I'm doing a very important document, I just change to "Normal" quality. My printers are set to "Fast Draft" as default, so I don't have to remember to change the preferences each time. gneegirl, the cost of cartridges depends on the printer--my newer printers use cartridges that cost $15, whereas my old all-in-one uses cartridges that cost $30. And my laser printer cartridges are $65 (but last much, much longer).
