Facebook has been under attack for some time now it appears. In fact I just sent a link to my adult children warning them of a backdoor trojan at Facebook.

I am at work right now and don't have the link with me. I did do a Google of "facebook trojan virus" (sans quotes) and located numerous reports during the last half of 2008. The backdoor trojan was only mentioned when I removed "virus" from the engine. Several appearing entries were dated December 2008.

When I get home I will try to remember to post the link I shared.

Agree, from what I saw a lot of the bad stuff from facebook was coming in the form of E-Mail that's how the facebook Trojan was installed on the users machine by clicking the e-mail or opening the attachment..

it is extremely risky to go to social networking sites, there are special infections that are made just for those pages, many of them are not set up by who you think they are, they are set up by very nefarious people with hidden exploits on the websites, if you viist those sites or ones they have hacked and your pc is lacking the most current updates not only for windows but for java, adobe, etc then you can get infected with out even doing a thing and they are bad infections.

I have a very good friend who recently asked me this same question I begged her to stay far away from social networking sites specifically facebook, I sent her many links to show her how these infections happen and explained it to her that she could just visit the page and get infected, well she said ok I will be careful unfortunately there is no being careful in those situations and exactly one week later her computer was so badly infected it would do nothing and it had to be completely reformatted back to original condition, she had nothing backed up of course so all her stuff from years was lost and getting all her updates for the pc took hours/days.

I do NOT go there period, the safest way to stay clean is to surf smart, the number one cause of infected computers is the user.

If you do not have malwarebytes on your pc I highly suggest you get it if you are seeing infections and are going to any social networking sites.
Make sure every single thing on your pc is updated including windows and everything else, use the

Oh and since she went and joined facebook guess who else is now getting lots of junk facebook email??? ME! So be prepared for everyone on your address book to suddenly be swamped with those lovely emails and hope they don't actually open them.

If your pc is lacking the most current updates you shouldn't be on the internet at all.

ain't that the truth but you know how many we see daily that are lacking a ton of updates not just for windows but for java and everything else that leaves them vulnerable!
And those bad guys are just looking for them and teasing them with those cute little facebook pages LOL

What bothered me when I did the Google was there were entries asking how to create a Facebook trojan. I didn't open the links as I find them offensive as well as potentially dangerous.

About using Facebook and if I may include smilie faces, emoticons, greeting cards, and whatever else has been corrupted by really dumb individuals just be educated, be alert, use safe surfing techniques and let your conscience be you guide.

children use pc's very young at school, i wonder if they are being taught how to protect their computers along with basic computer skills?

I have 3 users of Facebook on this computer. No trouble at all.

I keep my AV updated, check for malware/spyware, and keep my Windows updates current.

I also have educated my kids about clicking on links, etc. Not to say we won't ever get hit, but I am not going to put the brakes on Facebook yet.

That and the fact we are on a deathly slow connection. They don't even want to try to d/l anything, LOL!

I've never been to Facebook, but it seems everyone I know does. It is extremely popular and even older folks find old friends there.

Since I don't really care about connecting with 'old friends' I have no use for it but if I did, I would use it. I think computers should offer fun and some sort of social experience rather than sitting blindly staring at a screen.

People need to use common sense when traveling around the internet, but you should be able to enjoy using your computer.

I work in a medical setting and hear wonderful stories from young and old folks who locate old friends and family through Facebook.

Just make sure your computer has updated antivirus and a good firewall and have fun.

Raven, I have FaceBook on my computer. I have never posted to it though. I keep up with a 25 year old Cystic Fibrosis young man. Since I lost a son to Cystic Fibrosis he has a special place in my heart.
NOW should I delete it off my computer? I sure don't want another virus. I have noticed I am getting more spam since I signed up there. I can keep up with him in other ways. One of my friends had me sign up to it for him.. she sends me a lot of E-mails.

How do I completely get rid of it?
