Can't get to Google..odd message

I get this when I try to get on Google....is it me or them?

Has happened 2 days now...do I have a bug?

The requested URL could not be retrieved

While trying to retrieve the URL: http://www.google.com/

Unable to determine IP address from host name for www.google.com

Timeout

Are you having trouble reaching any other sites? If yes, then I'd guess your internet provider is having DNS problems (domain name system). The other possibility is that some form of malware is monkeying with the DNS settings on your computer. Have you been redirected to any web sites you did not intend to visit?

If you haven't please try clearing your browser cache and try again. You may have an expired cookie.

Also what browser are you using, and have you tried a different browser?

Hi damccoy, Thanks so very much for responding! I was trying to download from: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/download/?installer=Flash_Player_10.1_for_Windows_Internet_Explorer&p=Google_Toolbar_6.5&d=McAfee_Security_Scan_Plus&os=XP&browser=ie&type=activex I made sure it was a download for Windows XP. Made sure I had enough room to download it. I am using IE8. I only use my AOL for email because I've had it set up since 1997 and I am too lazy to go around changing my email addy with all that have it for social and business. So I wanted the flash player to load for IE8 as that's the browser I use for all my searches/internet activity. I did just recently add service pack 3 to my computer and the first time I tried to download it I had problems. That's the first time my friend told me about this site here at GW. I ended up being able to get the service pack 3 on my second try. I tried a second time with Adobe Flash 10 and then again a third time but even though I get the message box that says it's been downloaded, I see that it's nowhere in the Add/Remove section. Shaddy, Move all of the messages you want to keep from the inbox and then do this. How to delete inbox/outbox files NB: Email program has to be closed. 1) Click on Start/Find/Files or Folders 2) Ensure you have c:\ selected in 'Look in' 3) Type in inbox.idx and click 'find now' 4) Ensure you can see the correct file by checking in 'in folder' so you can see if it's an outlook express or internet mail file etc 5) Right click on the file and select delete. 6) Change the search to look for inbox.mbx and click 'find now' 7) Repeat steps 4 and 5 8) Restart the PC The same procedure applies to outbox.mbx and outbox.idx

WELL! How Ruuuude was that? I used Buehl's suggestion to add: 'site:ths.gardenweb.com' and 'Overwhelmed'. to my Google search and the very first site on the search was my post...Thank you Buehl! I was thrilled because I knew there were responses there that I wanted to make sure to acknowledge but I couldn't find that post. Sure enough, there it was. So I went to the bottom of that post and it looked exactly like these posts here tonight (this morning). I went ahead and typed a lengthy, I mean...Long, very long, mini-novel style post with a few pics. Everything went exactly as it does when I post here. I previewed my message, looked good. I clicked "Submit Message" and nothing. Just an hour glass that went round and round. Finally I got the message that said my post was on the Kitchen forum and it had the blue link to take me back to the forum. I clicked the link, I ended up back here. I've now gone through all four pages of questions/posts and mine is not here. I've refreshed, shut down this page, brought it back up, cleared cookies...nope, not here. Nothing like typing up a really long post and have it end up somewhere out there in CyberLand. *big sigh* Rude, I tell ya. Just rude.

All other sites are fine. No redirect that I remember. Just cleaned my cache...still can't get to anything google. I am using FF...but just tried in IE and in Chrome and couldn't get to google. A neighbor says someone in google help forum is having same problem ( I can't get there to look) but there wasn't an answer for them yet. My concern is, being somewhat pc illiterate, 2 days ago I got a laptop and linksys router from a neighbor, set it up, it's working, says I'm secured, but maybe I did something wrong....sigh....I dunno.

okkkkkkkkk I did that and can now get google tyvm!! I always can find help here and you all are great! I don't know what I did, or why I had to do it, but I am assuming (scary, I know) that it was ok to do!

next time try powering down every thing computer , router, modem and let them stay off for 5 mins then power up in this specific order power to the modem and let it get fully up and lit up, then power to the router let it get fully up and lit, then power up your main pc then any others.
Sometimes that will flush out the bad info and it also releases and captures a new IP.

that is a good thing to try anytime you are having strange problems. You must turn the power on in that sequence though. ( I just pull the plug out of the back of the modem and router so I can plug them back in easier with out having to crawl around for the other end of the plug)
