kodak same here. This forum constantly has problems with lost posts. Or if not lost - finding them again.

Same here. Been having that problem for a couple of days now. :( This entire website needs to be reformatted/have a major rehaul. Even the little things are annoying like having to preview message instead of just hitting send w/ option of editing later. And pics are so hard to post but maybe that's just me being stupid. And it's darn near impossible to email someone! There should be a PM option. Ah well. Still the best resource I've found online.

You can't edit something that's been submitted...Just have to do follow-up post if you want to explain a change or correction.

The search function at the top of the page never worked very well. The one at the bottom of the page worked 'ok,' but you couldn't refine it and it didn't have any search options to keep you from getting every post with any mention of any of the words you used for the search. I have now gone to using Google or Yahoo, then narrowing from there. Unfortunately, those search engines can somehow find posts that no longer exist, so when you click on them, it takes you back here, where the post itself has been lost by the forum.

I see we're back to only 1 1/2 pages of posts today, and it had logged me out. Grrr.

The other thing to remember is that only about 6 weeks worth of threads are included in the (normally!) 67 pages of threads. Once a thread falls off the last page, you can no longer find it via a search on GardenWeb. Sometimes you can find it using Google or similar search engine. (You might have to click on the "cache" link to actually get the thread.) To limit the Google searches to GardenWeb, include the following at the end of your search criteria specification:site:ths.gardenweb.com

A good thing to do is bookmark your thread (or any thread you want to keep).

The best thing to do, though, is save it to your local machine.

Oh and I personally LIKE the "Preview" option. Even if we could edit later, I would still want the "Preview" option!

Didn't understand what the OP was talking about until it happened to me this morning.

I tried to find my original post and when I scrolled to the bottom, there are only Two pages of past posts on this Kitchen Forum...Eeek!

Decided I'd check out the gallery here to get some ideas.

rhome410- Thank you for finding my messages. I will try to bookmark them or save them as buehl suggested. I know the forum is still having problems because no matches came up today when I searched kodak1. Hopefully everything will be fixed soon.

This is the first board I have ever posted on where so many NEW topics are allowed. Most boards have (must search to post on like topics) warning. This decreases the amount of overall posts and keeps similar topics running for all to post on. It helps to reduce the same questions showing up over and over. Also, editing options could decrease the amount of new posts. It is a shame to loose the great posts where excellent help has been shared and pictures have been so encouraging to people embarking on similar projects. This is a really great community, it is a shame that so many threads get lost.

Dear Vampire and others, Try tripadvisors.com, a travel website. They have many new posts, topics, etc., ---way more than garden web. It functions exceptionally well. They have ads, too, to pay for the functions. But the site still functions, perfectly, perfectly, perfectly.

Go on a vacation and search for a hotel in your destination. Or a rental. Or look for dining----I rest my case. If tripadvisor.com can do it with very likely much more frequent and varied posts, then why can't the high priced gardenweb people do it????? Big question. Compare it to tripadvisor.com. A broad category-not a narrow, limited tho popular, subject of interest.

to my Google search and the very first site on the search was my post...Thank you Buehl!

I was thrilled because I knew there were responses there that I wanted to make sure to acknowledge but I couldn't find that post.
Sure enough, there it was. So I went to the bottom of that post and it looked exactly like these posts here tonight (this morning).
I went ahead and typed a lengthy, I mean...Long, very long, mini-novel style post with a few pics.

Everything went exactly as it does when I post here.
I previewed my message, looked good.

I clicked "Submit Message" and nothing.
Just an hour glass that went round and round.
Finally I got the message that said my post was on the Kitchen forum and it had the blue link to take me back to the forum.
I clicked the link, I ended up back here.
I've now gone through all four pages of questions/posts and mine is not here.

I've refreshed, shut down this page, brought it back up, cleared cookies...nope, not here.

Nothing like typing up a really long post and have it end up somewhere out there in CyberLand. *big sigh*

I do hope that the site owner can eventually improve the situation and upgrade to help retain all the great posts. If it is an issue with funds, I am sure many frequent flyers would help support for a nominal annual fee...many boards do that to also help subsidize the commercial support...I'm dodging all the shoes thrown my way. Paid membership is typically voluntary and those members have an additional "members only" forum to kibitz in. Well anyway, just a thought. This is such a wonderful community, I am fairly new and have so enjoyed seeing all the beautiful decor and learning of the challenges in renovations. :-)
