Virus help please

Well, I've gone and done it again...got a virus. About a year ago I came here, and you all helped me get rid of that virus, so I am hoping for another miracle. This time I have been infected with "Internet Security 2010" on my good pc, which uses Win XP. I am using my old pc right now. This virus even shows up in safe mode, and pretty much takes over, so I am not sure how to use that pc AND try to get rid of it. Where and how do I begin please?

yes that is a bad one you definitely need to head on over to LzD as zep has suggested and ask Corrine and the team for help. It will take some time but just go slow and ask there if you have any questions or don't understand the directions.
I see you there now and that Eric has already given you some directions. You are well on your way now. Just stick with them there now.

Viruses, mineral deficiency, and PH problems can be hard to pinpoint. If you don't have that plant planted in brand new fresh soil where you are confident that the PH is 7.0 that would be the first place to start. Lowes/home depot and may garden centers sell for under $10 a PH meter . Green box meter head and a long metal rod that extends from it. Take a damp soil meter reading. If the PH is not 7.0 you could be looking at mineral deficiencies in your plant caused by its inability to absorb them due to the PH imbalance. You can always adjust the PH by adding garden lime or sulfur. If this is just one potted plant you are dealing with. Go buy new soil and repot....if you start to see this occurring in several plants check you PH levels...the $10 investment in a PH reader can save you hundreds of hours of dread and many days of disappointment.

Look it is some sort of hidden folder. THIS IS JUST INFORMATION DO NOT FOLLOW ANY INSTRUCTION HERE "You will not be able to see the Content.IE5 folder associated with your account in Windows Explorer. There are two ways to access the folder. 1. Open your TIF folder, (TIF TEMPORY INTERNET FILES) C:\Documents and Settings\YOURACCOUNT\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files. Next, click in the Address bar at the top of the window so that the address is highlighted. Hit the right arrow key to place the cursor at the end of the folder path. Type \Content.IE5 in the address bar and hit Enter. You should now see the contents of that folder. 2. Go to Start -> Run and enter the folder path to Content.IE5 in the Open box. Autocomplete should help you by presenting options you can select using the down arrow. Add a backslash after you select a folder. Don't worry about this folder I found this info from a google search..

That sounds like Virut virus lets hope not though..... Unfortunately, the virus infects every .exe and .scr (actually an executable) file on your system, and when you scan with a virus scanner, it will normally delete it as uncleanable. Eventually you end up loosing more and more files. The only viable alternative is to format the system. You will need to backup your important files before a format and reinstall, but you can not backup any .exe or .scr files, because they are infected. Good luck...

@susieq07, Someone needs to put you in your place. And I'm going to do it! What you are doing is down right wrong. You have not been professionally trained in the removal of malware. If you would have jumped in earlier and told her to boot to Safe Mode and run MBAM this is what would have happened. All programs would have been gone and the malware would have won! Some malware does not even run in Safe Mode. Most of the threats now days installs a rootkit. Tell me..how do you remove a rootkit? If your are as good as you think you are then you would know the answer! If you were a professional then you would know that ASC is bad because it includes a Registry cleaner. A professional would never use that program. Oh an susieq07, Security Tool IS NOT A VIRUS!!! IT IS A ROGUE PROGRAM. Weren't you told that before? There is a really big difference between a Virus and a Rogue program! If you don't know the difference you are doing an injustice to the Seniors you think you are helping!!! I am not iawjo, but I picked up this virus too. I have no idea where it came from. It blew past everything I tried to do to get rid of it. I abandoned ship since I had a new computer on stand by (from an insurance settlement when 2 computers and 2 tv's were hit by a power surge).
I tried for about a week and downlaoded more crap that was supposed to fix it. Nothing did. Good luck. I hope you find the solution.

Next time kathy go directly to a Malware removal forum, never download something on the Internet That claims to remove an infection. Unless you are being helped on a forum.

Last I heard iowajo is at a malware removal forum getting assistance.

I would guess the infections are happening due to not updating the pc fully, right now it is essential to keep adobe updated, java,& flash too because there are known in the wild infections for those vulnerabilities. The one for adobe is very serious. Using the secunia tool to find if you have anything that needs updated is an essential part of your security these days. Plus the recent out of band critical update issued by Microsoft is a must have.

these are serious infections and can not be cleaned properly with out the assistance of the security forum community for the average user. Trying to do it alone with out specific guidance is only going to clean parts of it. And using anything that says it will clean something is generally a sure bet that the product you are getting is in itself more malware if it was not recommended by a security forum assistant.
