Need help with Internet Explorer

I can't get into the Internet with my laptop. Every time I click on the Internet icon I get an error message saying IE has encountered a problem and to restart my computer. I tried getting in thru Windows Explorer and I get the same message. I have restarted a dozen times, deleted all my cookies & temp files, and still nothing.

I am a very non computer person, so please talk slowly! LOL!

It would help to know which version of Windows and which version of Internet Explorer. And the Exact wording of the error message. You can frequently search exact error message wording and instantly find a fix.

If XP you might go into 'Computer Management' and look at the 'Event Viewer' error logs. Sometimes that will show the error and supply a link to a suggested fix.
If you don't know how to access 'Computer Management' Click help off the Start Menu.

Before doing too much perhaps try going to Control Panel and Internet Options - Clear IE cache & offline files as well as clear the History too.

If you have a spyware program, you might want to run it also. One thing that can cause that IE must close message is a firewall... have you added a new firewall ? You can only have one firewall running at a time.

Mikie, I know I am using XP. I will get the laptop up and see just what the message says.

No that article did not apply. Mine shows "Mod Name urlmon.dll". Zep, can I safely remove IE8 and the update via Control Panel? If so, will it automatically roll back to IE7, or how do I go back?

If they did that they would have a TON of windows updates to do plus likely all 3 service packs to deal with. Any of those items you listed try doing a google search for them and you will quickly find out what they belong to, or use a program like free start up lite by the makers of malwarebytes. StartUpLite avg= your antivirus is AVG? you do not want to stop that for sure. you can use a process library to find what each one is and does, what ever you do, DO NOT use a registry cleaner! if this is a dell then the dsca is a dell file C:\Program Files\Dell Support Center\gs_agent\custom\dsca.exe DSCA is Dell's remote-support app. If you're relying on Dell's remote-desktop support, do not delete it. but it does not need to be in your start up list. msseces.exe (Microsoft Security Essentials) are you using both AVG and Microsoft Security Essentials on your pc for Antivirus? if so you need to fully remove one of them you should only run one full time AV at a time that will cause conflicts. smax4pnp.exe (SoundMax controls) you can look up the rest of them there at the pcpitstop library if you want. another good free program that can help you with this kind of stuff is winpatrol WinPatrol

It has a link there after you highlight the event that takes you to a microsoft support page for the error details -- which may or may not have a known solution. Plus sometimes if you look on the Details tab for the event, you might get a hint of what program might be conflicting or some other piece of info that aims you in the general direction of what might be wrong. Sounds like maybe its one of the popular conflicts with a plug-in. Fairly easy to run from the start menu 'system tools/InternetExplorer(no plug-ins) Which means if that works all the time,,, you can go to Internet Options/ 'Manage add ons' .... and disable all of them,,,,, then turn them back on one at a time until you discover which one is the bad guy.

Internet explorer 6.0 for macs?

Hi Jo, I'm no mac expert but it looks like Windows stop making Internet Explorer around version 5 for Macs. The only way I see you using Internet Explorer is you got to buy a full version of Windows and use something called "boot camp" from Apple.You basically end up with a dual boot machine.The best of both worlds.The downside is you got to pay for the Windows disk to get Internet Explorer. ok, told you I am a non computer person. I know I have XP cause I see that on startup. How do I figure out what version of IE?

The message says:
"Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for any inconvience."

When I click on the tech info it says:

AppName: iexplor.exe AppVer: 6.0.2800.1106 ModName: googletoolbar1.dll

mod ver: 4.0.1020.6156 offset: 0006ba35

Some are self explanitory... if by chance you use Verizon
they are POP3 and names are
incoming.verizon.net
outgoing.verizon.net
verizon uses the same authorization incoming and outgoing.(your user login/password)
