Internet Explorer 10 Uninstall Question

Evidently IE10 was automatically downloaded to my computer last night. I need to uninstall it because it is creating some problems. However, I cannot figure out how to uninstall it. Can someone please help me with how to do this, please.

Darned if I can remember. I had to do the same thing. Certain websites were all wonky and unusable. Other issues too.

I *think* I looked at the latest updates in Windows Updates and just uninstalled it.

You could do a System Restore. Start>all programs>accessories>system tools>system restore. (I'm using XP . Yours may be a different path for different OS.)

Then set your Windows Updates to notify you before installing. That gives you a while to wait and see if anyone reports problems with an update before installing.

Also, can google "problems with IE10 update" and you will find you aren't the only one having problems with it. Hope this helps.

mikie: can't say I understand the ghack... site well. It says to determine if my IE settings are already safely set in 'advanced' security mode by going thru Tools, Options, Advanced, and then down somewhere in the Security area to look or do something that is not clearly defined. I see that there is a check box for Allowing some 64 bit security setting that is checked in the ghack picture. It is not further described and it is not the highlighted item in that list. In my IE 11, that box is not checked, but by going more directly thru Tools, Security, I can see that 'advanced security' is selected. I suppose that 64 bit box might need to be checked, but it appears to be allowing more rather than less access and that seems like a weakness rather than an improvement. So, I don't know what I am supposed to do here. And it seems odd that a supposed huge hole that requires massive Microsoft scrambling can be fixed by checking a box or not!!! The ghack site then goes on about something called Enhanced Mitigated Experience Toolkit. It doesn't tell how to get it safely and also implies it is not needed if my security is set appropriately. Gee Thanks. Finally, it comments on Flash. I have already upgraded but I would like to point out that the Adobe terminology and others as well tend to suggest that it is an update rather than a newly named version. It seems odd that what seems like a patch, is a new version; but whatever, I guess.

To avoid the chance of being infected while you swap anti virus programs is very easy to accomplish. Decide which program you want and download it, saving it to a folder. I keep a folder called Utilities where all this stuff goes. Then you disconnect the internet connection, go to Add/Remove programs and remove the current anti virus. Now install the new program and set it to run. I expect a reboot might be necessary but it will tell you. Once you have the new anti virus running connect to the internet again and immediately go to the web site to update to the latest anti virus definitions. Regarding your fear of removing anything other than the anti virus program, that will not happen because your anti virus program will be set up in it's own folder. If you have AVG now and also AVG anti malware, then yes, they are in the same folder but if there are any shared files there (doubtful) you will be asked if you want to remove or keep that particular file. If you want to view your folders at any time just right click on the Start button then click Explore. Now you have a split screen. Click on anything in the left side and the contents of that folder appear in the right side. Click any plus signs on the left side to cause all the sub folders to drop down under the highlighted folder.

I saw it in their list of downloads for my system. It is not imperative that I have IE 10 right now, so I shall wait. Your suggestion for switching to the Safe Mode to sort out problems is a good one. My main concern was that I may have a bad copy of IE 10 (compressed download file) somewhere in my computer and I'd like to get rid of it, but I don't know its file name or where it may reside. When installing Norton as a Comcast customer, the download is from Norton. I was a Norton Customer before becoming a Comcast customer and other than a bit of brand signage, the Norton Suite doesn't appear to have different versions. There's no need for any third party uninstaller program - if you look on your program menu under Norton Security Suite, one of the choices is Norton Uninstall. I can tell you from my own experience that that utility works very comprehensively. I once had a corrupted file that required an uninstall - reinstall that wasn't working for me, and Norton Tech Support used that tool on a remote connection. OP, I'm glad everything is working for you again.

I finally figured it out. If others have this problem, got to Control Panel > Programs and Features > For Win7 in left hand panel click "view installed updates > scroll down to Microsoft Windows, then find whatever it is you want to install. If the install was very recent, it is easier to change the view by clicking on Installed On tab, then all will be arranged by the date it was installed, bringing the recently installed to the top. Then just hit uninstall.

Explorer 10 is a total nightmare!!! Windows 8 isn't far behind!!

walnut has the correct answer. And it'll automatically revert back to IE9 when you shut down and reboot. I too had to do it recently. Nightmare isn't strong enough. UGH!

I know change can be hard - but give Chrome or Firefox a try.

They work SO much better than IE... SO MUCH BETTER!

You can move all your bookmarks over.

I love Chrome. I use Windows for just one thing. Unfortunately my employer's sites are only Microsoft compatible.

We are also being forced to buy iPads, even though there are cheaper and better tablets. With an iPad everyone uses the same OS,so that's the way they want to go.

I suggest you go immediately to the windows update page and block the installation of IE 10 or it will install it every time your auto update runs. Right click on it in the list to block for now. Do the same to unblock it when you decide to get it.
